Breathe Right nasal strips

Post by Chuck Connors » Fri Dec 18, 2015 1:04 am

Does anyone have experience with using nasal strips? If so, do they work?

I have used them off and on to relieve nasal congestion. Hard to say how effective they really are in my situation.

How do you get then to stick to an oily nose?

I clean off my nose with a little bit of hydrogen peroxide. After I get the strips on my nose, I gently press them down to keep everything in place throughout the night.

I have a really oily nose, and used alcohol on it before the strip. They work great if the source of your congestion is your nose and not higher up. Try 'em.
My husband likes the Walmart brand better than the real thing.

I have used them before I was on CPAP when I had a cold. They work pretty well. I use nasal pillows, so now my CPAP does essentially the same thing.

Before starting CPAP I had a problem with nostrils (nares) closing on inhalation and causing me to do a lot of mouth breathing. I tried breathe right strips but I got nasty rashes where the adhesive was (most tape irritates me).

Then one day, walking through a local CVS Store I say Sleep RIght 'Intra Nasal Breathe Aid'. Bought a package (3 in a package) and after a couple night getting used to the little device the results were great, most of my mouth breathing was gone.

I hope I can post the manufacturer's link...

They are available at most drug stores and on amazon.

I now use a Nasal Pillow mask, but I believe these would would inside a full face mask.

I tried them before my diagnosis. I'd say they were definitely useless for me.

Just realized my post may have been misleading. The nasal strips never cured my sleep apnea. They just helped me breath through my nose.

I had the same experience. Instant rash. Those in the nose things did help but made no difference to my OSA.

My mouth breathing wasn't cured however.

I use the sensitive skin ones, they work fine for my light congestion, if fully blocked not so much. I buy in bulk from the E... store as they are MUCH lower cost than a walk in store. I tend to buy 10 boxes at a time, so yes I like them.

I do break out in blisters from most tape products, but not these
Sleeping MUCH better now

Breathe Right nasal strips are not intended to resolve issues of sleep apnea. They DO work to open your nose passages though.

been super helpful for me. To determine whether they would help, google "Cottle nasal valve test"

Hubby uses a baby wipe. He used to use an alcohol swab, but the strip stuck so well it took skin off.

My husband has used Breathe Right Strips Original (does not like store brand) for many years. He was diagnosed in May 2014 and started CPAP In June 2014. He continues to use the strips successfully with a full face mask. He washes his nose with baby shampoo before bed, just a drop or so on a wet wash cloth. The baby shampoo rinses clean as it contains no oils or emollients.
