Inhale/exhale sounds driving me nuts!
Inhale/exhale sounds driving me nuts!
Greetings!
I am looking for some guidance re: my husband's CPAP. He has had a CPAP for many years and machine noise has never bothered me. His old machine had a "whooshing" sound which frankly was like white noise and probably helped me go to sleep!
Now, however, I am losing my mind from the breathing (inhaling/exhaling) sounds that accompany his putting on the mask. And for some reason the sound is much worse when I put my head down on my pillow. It literally sounds as if the pillow is magnifying the breathing sounds. Last night I just gave up and slept in another room.
My husband changed out his mask about a month ago and I'm suspicious that this may have something to do with why the breathing noises have started to keep me up. I contacted an online cpap retailer but they were of no help in trying to figure this out.
If anyone on the board has any suggestions I would be eternally grateful. I know that I can get earplugs, sleep in another room, etc. but first I want to see if this might be an equipment issue that can be resolved with a different mask.
I look forward to your thoughts,
Julie

What mask is it making the noise? What mask did he have that you though was quiet?

Re: Inhale/exhale sounds driving me nuts!
what kind of a cpap does your husband have, what was the old mask, what is the new mask?
alternative answer, earplugs make all sorts of quiet.

Take shorter drives, don't drive with or over nuts! Use other sounds to mask breathing noises, (whitenoise, music, not foot taping music, nature sounds, rain on roof, brooks, wind in trees.). Jim

Changed brands of mask, or a new one of the same kind?

The important question, which should you be more concerned about, your husband's breathing noises or finding him in bed not breathing. I'd hope my wife chose the former not the latter. Jim

My husband and I both use CPAP and there is almost zero noise. So, something is wrong. Where is the noise coming from? The machine? Hose? Mask? Husband? Does his mask cover his nose only or his nose and mouth? What about the previous mask?Jules22 wrote:the breathing (inhaling/exhaling)

Really????
I turned to this board for some advice from those who are far more knowledgeable about CPAP issues than myself. Instead I get criticized for my comment. Just so you know Jim, I am the one who insisted that my husband see a pulmonologist when his nighttime breathing became down right scary years back. I understand fully the potential dangers of sleep apnea which is exactly why I urged/insisted he go for his original sleep study. For you to insinuate that I am uncaring or acting in a selfish manner is not only insulting, it's ignorant. I simply wanted advice/guidance on if this might be an equipment issue and how to best resolve it so we both can get a decent night's sleep.
To those of you who posted reasonable comments or questions, thank you so much. Having said that, I'll figure this out on my own. I won't be back to a board where a poster thinks it's perfectly OK to criticize and make a snide remark all in the name of "helping" someone else.
Jim, don't bother to post your next nasty comment...I won't be returning.

I find it insulting that you don't answer the questions of the decent folk here who tried to offer genuine help. Ever hear of cutting of your nose so spite your face?

Four people tried to help, but you chose to ignore the four and focus on one person making some lighthearted wisecracks.Jules22 wrote:I won't be returning.

We don't know what the old machine with the whooshing noise was...we don;t know what the current machine is...we don't know what the old quiet mask was and we don't know what the current noisy mask is....BUT...."tell me how to fix the noise.

that's far and away from a 'lighthearted wisecrack'.Goofproof wrote:The important question, which should you be more concerned about, your husband's breathing noises or finding him in bed not breathing. I'd hope my wife chose the former not the latter. Jim

One who also gave you good advice that you failed to take into account. The OP has probably left in a huff but for others out there: I like these ear plugs... this may not be the cheapest price but you know how to do that, if you want.

I like my ResMed AirFit F10 FFM - reasonably low leaks for my ASV therapy. I'm currently using a PR S1 AutoSV 960P Advanced. I also keep a ResMed S9 Adapt as backup. I use a heated Hibernite hose. Still rockin' with Win 7 by using GWX to stop Win 10.
