any good sleep clinic in NY City area?
any good sleep clinic in NY City area?
I'm considering looking for a different sleep clinic/doctor of sleep medicine. The place I go to now seems like a very poor facility. I cannot get a data capable CPAP machine through them because i have "no medical need" for one. I cannot get a prescription for a new machine because "i might turn around and sell it. " I could not even get a prescription for new masks; i was directed to look on Amazon.com. I am only offered whatever their DME can get. I am going to try to contact the doctor directly because I normally speak to the PA and the DME liaison (not sure of that person's title). However, I am not optistimic.
Does anyone know a good sleep clinic in the NY City area and if so, is there a good chance I will be prescribed a data capable CPAP machine and save $700-900?

What about seeing Dr. Steven Park who is an ENT/Sleep Medicine doctor? I have not been to him myself but I have heard through the grapevine for what it is worth that other people have had good experiences with him. Obviously, your mileage will vary.
Best of luck in finding someone suitable. Your current experience sounds like a real nightmare.

Hello,
Do you live in the city or outside the city? I live just north of Westchester County. I see a guy in Ossining but he is part of Mount Kisco Medical Group and I think also has an office in Mount Kisco or one of their other offices (Yorktown area maybe). He is a lung specialist but I was told (and maybe due to my insurance?) he was the guy to see about a sleep study (not he himself, although he is very good, but apparently my cardiologist could not prescribe a sleep study for me, but a lung specialist could). I did my sleep study in Hudson Valley Hospital Center but they do not do weekends right now. I did the first part there. I did the 2nd part (the part where they figure out the titration for the cpap machine) at Phelps Medical center. I liked Hudson Valley a bit better as the room was bigger, but the bed at Phelps was so comfy (hard bed, tempurpedic mattress, I loved it). But the room was TINY. And the shower was down the hall. Yeah. I put on an old crappy baseball cap and went home and showered there. LOL. Anyway. If you live up in this area send me a private message and I'll give you his name.

A good personal recommendation is best. Barring that, try a doctor associated with an AASM certified sleep lab - http://www.sleepeducation.org/find-a-facilitydavep700 wrote:Does anyone know a good sleep clinic in the NY City area and if so, is there a good chance I will be prescribed a data capable CPAP machine and save $700-900?
It would be interesting to know if your current doc is on the list.

When I was looking for a new doctor, I was given the name of Steven Park as well. I'm in New Jersey, and in love with my doctor again. Let me know if you want her name.
Getting the right doctor is the first step. If your insurance won't cover a new machine, that could be a big problem, too.

I'll take personal recommendations if anyone wants to private message me. The doctor should be within the New York city limits though.
So I gather that usually people get their XPAP therapy prescribed and overseen by a doctor board certified in sleep medicine and its the case that some ENTs like Dr Park are also doctors of sleep medicine.

Great info. My doctor is NOT on the list. This will definitely help.ChicagoGranny wrote:A good personal recommendation is best. Your doctor, whichever one you end up with, can and should specify the exact machine that you are to be provided with. If the prescription is non-specific, that leaves it to the discretion of the DME...... and you'll most likely get a "brick" as a result. My doctor also left everything else on the order checked and available, all mask types-humidifiers- hoses- etc. Very important in my experience. Good luck.

Look up NY Presbyterian Weill-Cornell Hospital in Manhattan and see if your insurance works at their sleep center. Dr. Ana Krieger is very good.
