Good Apps that Track Snoring

Post by moonslice » Mon Sep 05, 2016 10:03 pm

Can you recommend an app that tracks snoring?

I'm currently using an oral appliance for mild sleep apnea without CPAP and need to know how much I'm snoring. Asking the husband isn't that reliable. I'd like to be more scientific about it. Might do a home sleep study at some point while wearing the appliance, but right now I just want to know about the snoring.

Thanks.

I use SnoreLab. Simple interface, couldn't be easier to use, set up and monitor.

SnoreLab, ITA. Wonderful little thing. Sadly, it made it plain to me that my dental appliance was NOT doing the job. Hope you fare better. Good luck.

Thanks everyone.

Palerider, I located SnoreClock on my iPhone apps, but it has no reviews, or free trial. Maybe it's worth $4 to try it out. Will try to hunt down more info on it. Have you used it much?

I've actually been trying the free version of SnoreLab, and it has for four separate nights only said I snored for 0%/1 minute. That can't be right. I tried it one night without the appliance and it said the same thing: 1 minute. I really think I snore more than 1 minute a night.

Perhaps I'm doing something wrong. I put my phone facedown next to my side of bed like the instructions say. It records my cat meowing and my husband's alarm, etc. But I haven't been able to detect any actual snoring on it. About 10 feet from my bed I do have an air purifier that I use for pet odors, but mostly for white noise so I can sleep. I wonder if this is interfering.

I feel like the appliance is cutting down on snoring, but I wonder if it's in my head. I always wake up after sleeping about three hours with it and want to take it out. That's better luck than I had with CPAP, but need to get over that hump and make sure it's doing something before I pay my part for another home study for it. Don't have any immediate plans to do the sleep study though.

MizLizzie, did you try adjusting the appliance to see if that helps? Did you have the more custom, expensive type or the SomnoGuard AP? I'm starting off with the SomnoGuard AP, but might at some point see a dentist who makes these for a more custom fit. This was a quick and inexpensive way to try it, and my ENT did it through my insurance and did the actual boiling and fitting for me. It wasn't coded as an oral appliance and didn't require any preauthorization, so I think I could still get the more custom type. This one is bulky for sure, but I've only experienced minimal tooth soreness and no jaw pain. Have noticed more ringing in ears, but not sure if it's related to the appliance or not.

We adjusted mine all the way out. No luck. Mine was a boil-n-bite, I had to pay out of pocket. But I thought it would be well worth it to avoid CPAP. I was wrong. I love my CPAP. Hated the thing on my teeth. It was a waste of several hundred dollars, but I was traveling overseas for work a lot, and just didn't want the hassle of hauling a CPAP. IIRC, my iPad must be laid face up and left running. Shut down all other apps. You want the microphone corner near you. I would definitely cut the other machine off. SnoreLab looks for deviant noises. In my experience, it was quite reliable. After this, if you hear no snoring, I would question whether you have a problem. Good luck!

Sounds interesting, but I guess it wouldn't work very well for people who listen to a radio with the sleep timer until they drop off. I suspect it would record all of that as snoring? I find listening to NPR a good distraction that helps me fall asleep.

MizLizzie, will try cutting out the other noises. Of course, can't cut out my dog and two cats and my husband who wakes up before me I do have a problem. My husband hears me snore, which is what lead me to having the initial sleep study that detected mild sleep apnea, AHI 13. I also sometimes even wake myself up snoring, but not while wearing the appliance. My appliance cost me $140, but insurance covered the rest. When I went for my 6-week follow-up, the sleep doc suggested I try an oral appliance. My compliance with CPAP was really bad, starting with the titration even. I just couldn't sleep with it, and the effort was making me miserably sleep deprived. He said, "CPAP doesn't like you." I expected a lecture, but since my apnea is mild I guess he thought I had other options.

Yaconsult, yes it records everything. You can try the free version, but it restricts how many nights in a row you can use it without seeing an ad.

Skip the app; use APAP.
Problem solved.

But where's the fun in doing what makes sense. Using a app like that you will also hear the water bouncing off you as you float in DeNile. Jim

DeNile? Nope, I stopped using CPAP based on doctor's recommendations. It was not against medical advice.
