Noisy CPAP machine

Post by mgharris » Fri Jun 30, 2017 6:28 am

My wife continually complains that my CPAP machine starts off quiet, then seems to get louder during the night, what can I do?

What exactly is she hearing? The flow from the exhaust vents? The machine's fan? The exhaust from the mask hitting part of the bedding? In general, CPAP machines are very quiet.

Do you use the ramp feature? This starts the pressure at a lower level for a specified number of minutes. The pressure then slowly increases to the prescribed pressure. The flow from the mask exhaust vents is higher at higher pressures. She might be hearing the gentle air flow.

Are you using auto settings with a minimum and maximum pressure? As you fall into the deeper stages of sleep, your pressure requirements might increase, and the machine will be louder.

Some tips for making the machine quieter ---> Place the machine on a thick pad, such as a mouse pad. Place the machine below the level of the top of the bed.

It would be very helpful to know what machine you are using////

And it could just be that suddenly she's aware of the nighttime 'quiet' that doesn't register at bedtime.

The CPAP machine I am using is the Resmed S9.
I think it could just be the way the mask seals on my face, as she says the noise gets louder if I move during the night.

The S9 is an extremely quiet machine...I have been using mine for 3 years. Sounds like it's the mask...not the machine

Was the cpap new or previously used?
Often, failure in any machinery starts out as increasing noise as the device warms up.
