Curlers with CPAP

Post by TCGL » Sun Oct 01, 2017 3:41 am

Sometimes I need to have curlers in my hair. But of course this presents a problem for wearing CPAP. I sometimes use a SWIST FX with the ear straps but that can be very painful behind the ears if it’s too tight. Any suggestions?

Maybe changing the pattern of the roller placement to accomodate mask straps will suffice. Or using a strap free mask such as the Tap Pap if you don't have any dental reasons not to. That's a bummer. Got a friend who rolls her hair every night on those old school pink sponge rollers before going to bed and wearing headgear would certainly complicate her quick and easy bedtime routine. Yeah, it's an added aggravation, but you'll figure out how to make it all work for you.

Put your mask on first, and then roll your hair. That way you can avoid putting a curler where the mask straps have to go.

I'm not sure what it will do to your hairdo though. Are electric curlers or a curling iron options?

I've used the pink sponge curlers in my hair at night before and then put on my headgear. IT's a little tricky, but, doable. I stopped doing it though, and just now use a curling iron or hot curlers in the morning, when I want curls, instead of the overnight route. I like the idea of putting the head gear on first, then rolling the hair. I might try that, if I decide to roll again at night.

There is always the PERM.
One could go all "miley", and shave it.
I slept in rollers as a teenager, but soon realized that it interfered with sleep,
especially with the old style brush rollers.

The pixie is quite popular with people who have limited time and/or mobility.
High maintenance is for pageants--not the real world.
Let go of the tyranny of excessive vanity.

Why can't people reply with any helpful tips without all the freaking judgement?! The OP clearly was NOT trying to get out of using CPAP, they were looking for ways to accomplish the goals of rolling their hair AND using CPAP.

Why in the world would people be so snarky about this question?? Good grief! She is looking for helpful suggestions, not JUDGEMENT! I can't believe what I read sometimes!

I would go with the suggestion of putting the headgear on and try to manipulate the hair into the curlers around that.

I agree, someone said something about the white elephant in the room... It doesn't have to been seen with judgement... sometimes people just don't think of the obvious! Sure CF didn't have to say "vanity", but It's a good idea to think about. and sometimes a good old punch in the guts is what someone needs to get rattled out of their old way of thinking.
Instead of Sleep apnea it should be called "Sleep deprivation, starving of oxygen, being poisoned by high CO2 levels, damaging the body and brain while it's supposed to be healing so that you constantly get worse and can never get healthy Apnea"

It would seem the arrogant foul mood of some posters here is contagious. Shame too, there as some really nice and smart people, who seem to be getting outshouted by jerks.

Luckily with threads like this generally the OP gets one or two helpful responses before everything goes to hell.

Agreed. I hope the OP in this thread (and others) can learn to ignore the nastiness and focus on those that are kind and helpful.

To the OP - You've gotten a couple of suggestions, including put your mask on first and put rollers on around the headgear. I also ask IF hot rollers or a curling iron in the morning is possible.

The only other thing I can think of is curlers that are 100% soft with no hard pieces. I did a quick search and found a couple different kinds. Maybe something like that would be an option?

I was vain, once upon a time--but cancer has changed me.
I did not mean "vanity" as a judgement against any person----but as a point of perspective that not everything is real.
The gorgeous manes we see on TV are not real--they take hours of intensive work by experts, extra hair, etc.
They are for show only--not real life.

But this has nothing to do with the OP's question. She said she sometimes needs to wear curlers at night. She got a couple of suggestions. That's all this thread required.

I have to concur--curlers are not a "need".
Never are, never were.
