AirSense 10 Auto
AirSense 10 Auto
Hi all.
I am confused about the reporting capability of the Airsense 10 Auto machine.
I have heard the term "Modem" and "Wireless/WiFi" used to describe how the machine can communicate therapy data.
The word modem, to me, conveys some sort of telecommunication, such as cell phone "over the air" communication or even a hard wire to a telephone jack in the wall.
The word wireless/WiFi seems to mean communicating over the internet thru a WiFi enables system at the house.
So.... exactly what does the Autosense 10 have in it to communicate? Is it some form of Cellular communication, or a wireless WiFi card?
Of course, I know it can use an SD card to store the data as well.
Thanks.

I would turn them off. I have no desire to have yet another device spying inside my house.pratzert wrote:Hi all.

Unless, of course, your insurance company requires the machine report back to them...

Re: AirSense 10 Auto
It's cellular. Works off cellular towers some how. I saw it mentioned in detail as to how but didn't pay close attention since I don't have to report anything to anyone and bought my machine privately.
There is airplane mode available which simply blocks the cellular transmission that the machine will try to do to send whatever it sends to whomever is looking.
Now it can update using the cellular thing though...so if there are any updates to the machine software (and there has been one that I know of to fix a bug in the humidifier) and airplane mode is on...you won't get the update unless you turn airplane mode off.
ResMed doesn't normally regularly update the firmware though...so I don't think people are missing much if they prefer to keep airplane mode on.

Re: AirSense 10 Auto
This is what it says in the Airsense 10 Clinical Manual....
Remote monitoring
The AirSense 10 device has cellular communication which has the ability to automatically transmit
summary and night profile data on a regular basis. It also allows you to change settings remotely.
The Wireless signal strength icon displayed at the top right of the screen indicates the signal
strength. Advise the patient to check the signal strength on their device.
Notes:
Therapy data might not be transmitted if used outside of the country or region of purchase.
Devices with cellular communication might not be available in all regions.
Transmit to who? ResMed? DME? North Korea? Who Cares about our Sleep Data?

Re: AirSense 10 Auto
The machine transmits your data to Resmed. Your doctor or DME can access your data through th Resmed network. If your machine was purchased through insurance, and you must prove usage in order for the insurance to pay for it, the DME will access your information in order to get paid for the machine. Many insurance companies actually use a rent to own provision on the machines. They pay a monthly fee for a set number of months, normally twelve or thirteen, then the machine is yours. Some insurance companies will also require a periodic verification that you are using the machine and it is treating your apnea. This verification may be done through the information you send to Resmed, or they may require a face to face meeting with the doctor to verify the machine is being used and is properly treating your apnea.

Re: AirSense 10 Auto
Thanks for all the info.
So I will be keeping the machine in Airplane mode as I have no way of monitoring what it is actually transmitting, nor to whom.
I will install an SD card and if the insurance company want proof of compliance, I will take my SD card to my Sleep Doc.
There have been way too many stories of our Televisions, phones etc. spying on us.
I don't want or need another potential house spy.

The idea behind the IoT ( internet of things) is that many household items will be connected to the internet to "improve life". Like it or not its coming and you may as well get used to it.

We are going to have to grow more hackers. There will be so many opportunities to hack into everything, they will be overwhelmed. Re: AirSense 10 Auto
Got a notice from my bank, the people they deal with (Not Equifax), they wanted to set me up with another company to monitor for damage. Why, that would only provide another path to have your personal data spread. The V.A. has had my medical data stolen 3 times in 3 years that I know of. Credit Card fraud twice, finally they put me on a no Credit Card List. (I no longer get applications in the mail 5 times a week.) So it has it's good side! I had CC's for 15 years, only paid $ 3.35 in interest, they didn't make money on me, one was cash back, got about $200.00 back so I am ahead. JimTASmart wrote:Hell sometimes clouds open up and leak! YEa, but don't forget they make money on both sides of the deal. So for every dollar you spend earning that cash back, the vendor paid them something like $.03. Kind of like printing money thats worthless, causes everything you buy to cost more because the money is worthless, (inflation), but the gov says inflation isn't happaning here. Then they raise the min wage, based on nothing, not improving doing your job... You make more so you get to pay the government more of your money.

It seems like companies are always doing something "for your convenience". Ya... right.....
