"My Pillow"

Post by Rainmom17 » Sat Jan 06, 2018 2:19 pm

Anyone on here use the pillow called "My Pillow" that's advertised on TV? I've heard great things about it from people I know, but they aren't cpap users.

Not a fan.
Very high priced, considering the quality. Very cheaply made.
Over-filled for me, and NOT adjustable. Fluffing is NOT adjusting!
I had to open my pillow up and remove fill to avoid a horrible neck pain.
And then, it fluffed up around my mask and moved it around.
Tossed it in the corner--the cat can have it!
I love the zippered, shaped, QUILTED cover on the buckwheat and foam
cool and natural pillow sold on Amazon for approximately the same price.
A little firmer than I was used to, but holds its shape and supports exactly right.

I looked but couldn't find a long, drawn out thread on the My Pillow. Most people didn't like it and thought for the price that it was a rip off. I tried the buckwheat hull pillow and liked it in the beginning. However, when I decided to wash the quilted cover all the buckwheat hulls and foam had turned a brown color and stuck to it. I didn't want to take a chance of ruining my washing machine, so I ended up tossing it in favor of a foam pillow I found at Bed Bath & Beyond. I'm much happier with it.

I think this "Pancake Pillow" looks interesting. Kinda pricey, though. https://pancakepillow.com/

Best pillow I've ever used. It fits around my mirage quattro full faced mask soft enough I can sleep on my stomach and side with no mask leaks. I like a pillow that keeps my head level when on my side and stomach. My pillow that Walmart sells does.

Note, lucyhere: instructions specify to remove ALL the filling before washing--buckwheat hulls are NOT washable!

I used one about a year, it wasn't a terrible pillow, but it isn't a premium pillow either, at least not for me. I have the king size pillows, would usually fluff them up when I went to bed and find them depressed where the head lay in the morning. Don't know if I'm moving the head around more than I know at night or if that shredded memory foam is smashing down more than it should, probably both. Either way, the head wasn't supported all night.

I'd purchased the CPAP buckwheat pillow (prior to the My Pillow), 2 of them, but it was so small compared to the king I was used to that I couldn't get "arranged" on it. Searched on Amazon for an alternate and found the Beans72 company, ordered a king and a king sized extra tick and took the fill from the 2 smaller pillows and made myself a second one. I couldn't be happier with the results, pain in head, neck, and shoulders that I thought was a function of aging and exercise is next to nothing, and because the head is supported and stable, I haven't had a "large leak" incident from dislodging the nasal pillows a bit since I started using it 2 weeks ago. Resting your head on a sack of grain might sound unconventional, but it has worked well for me.

Of course. The hulls and foam had turned a brown color and stuck to the inside of the quilted pillow. It would have taken hours to pull them all off. I was going to dump out the old hulls and refill with the balance of the hulls I had left; just couldn't get the old ones out.

I use the "My Pillow" currently and have done for the past couple of years. I tend to back sleep for the most part and find it quite a bit cooler and much less lumpy than memory foam pillows. It washes very well, dries quickly, and doesn't compress too much or get lumpy. I am open to improvement, though. I have used buckwheat pillows in the past (all hulls, not mixed) and, while they were very cool, they weighed a ton and were quite firm. Molded/shaped CPAP specific foam pillows never seemed comfortable to me, either. So, as stated, still open to improvement.
The "pancake pillow" referred to by Jay Aitchsee looks interesting. I read a few reviews for it and found very few negative comments - there was one negative I found that matched a question I had - was thickness the only way to adjust firmness? The reviews concluded it was impossible to achieve a firm pillow with just a couple of inserts or a soft pillow with all inserts in place. It would be nice if the individual pancakes were available in differing levels of firmness (established by filling material type) to allow firmness to be determined not just by number of inserts but material as well - probably a non-starter, though - too costly.

Use the Tempurpedic "neck" pillow as a side sleeper. Works well with the nasal pillow masks I've been using, and gives me good support as a side sleeper. A bit on the expensive side though. The papillow worked better with the AirTouch F20 when I was trying that out recently. The Tempurpedic was too pushy on the mask, the papillow gave the mask more free space and less "pushiness" (if you know what I mean).

Pillows are so personal, lots of stories out there *smile*.

I slept on a buckwheat pillow for a long time (maybe 6 months).... I felt like the Flintstones.... sleeping on a rock. I went back to Contour cpap pillow. It's a memory foam pillow with cpap cut outs.

Hmm. I suppose one could throw in a piece of foam, memory foam, or buckwheat in for the bottom layer.

It does open a world of opportunity for modifications with the way the pancake pillow has room for any number of things besides just what they ship with the product.

One example that comes to my mind is maybe a small buckwheat hull pillow on the bottom and a layer or two of something else for the people who like the support that buckwheat offers but the noise of the hulls is annoying.
The hulls don't particularly annoy me with the noise but I can see that some people with sensitive hearing might be annoyed.
