Air Bubbles Forcing Mouth Open
Keep getting air bubbles that don't allow me to sleep. Was advised to reduce air pressure to 9 as my initial monthly trial run test showed 95 % of the time i was below nine. This did not stop air bubbles from happening. Use a pillow mask and a Res Med Auto Sense 10

Res1, I had this problem when I first started CPAP, but it went away after a few nights. I still had other issues with mouth breathing while asleep and solved those with a soft cervical collar. Some of us try to train our tongues by pushing the front of the tongue against the front of the upper palate. Others use tape to hold their mouths shut.

Thanks.....i am a bit confused because I m unaware of any mouth breathing and awake when this happens. Will look into collar and tape.

Sometimes a small pillow tucked under the chin helps.

Re: Air Bubbles Forcing Mouth Open
i should point out that a rep for Res Med felt it was too much pressure causing the excess air into he mouth cavity rather than expelling it from the tiny holes in front of hose rather than a open mouth situation. This is a brand new machine with a long heated hose.
Re: Air Bubbles Forcing Mouth Open
Reps from Resmed - unless they really are trained techs - will spout all kinds of stuff and only want to sell you something. Do not take their word or opinions on medical problems until you also talk to a sleep doctor or knowledgable people here.
Re: Air Bubbles Forcing Mouth Open
This is less of a pressure problem than a directional problem. It usually gets better over time. By placing your tongue just behind your teeth and breathing in and out through your nose it directs the air down the airway instead of the mouth. Try this during the day. It might take a while before it transfers to your sleeping brain but at least you will know what it feels like. After I learned what it feels like to breathe where the air doesn't go into my mouth, I can now open my mouth with out the pressure rushing out and even talk a few words.
If you find that your chin is dropping during the night and your mouth is opening then the other suggestions could be helpful.

Re: Air Bubbles Forcing Mouth Open
Thank you for the advice. At first I was shaking my head because i have full and pretty much full dental plates and you can't wleep with them cause you will end up with infected gums. Okay so how do i get by this hurdle? Well it turns out if you put your tongue at the bottom of the roof of your mouth, just above the gums you can create the same effect as placing it behind your teeth. Works pretty good. Odd bubble but adjusting to those..Once again Thank You!
Re: Air Bubbles Forcing Mouth Open
Glad to hear you figured it out. Getting use to CPAP takes adjusting and problem solving but it does get easier.
