Mask indentations in my hair- any way to avoid?

Post by sewsleepy » Wed Feb 27, 2019 2:26 am

I love my Airfit P10 and no complaints, except that the elastic that goes over the top of my head leaves an indentation in my hair. Anyone have any strategy to avoid that? I've tried putting padding under it but it didn't really solve the issue. I thought maybe someone else has figured a way around this- if so, please share!

lots of folks, usually females, wear a cap.... a stocking cap of sorts.

Looking at Chunky Frog :shock:

If I remember right, Chunky Frog had some good recogmendations. Do a search... try "cap" or "stocking cap"

I hated this issue too and ended up buying this mask and have been incredibly happy with it.

If it makes you feel any better, I get indentations in my cheeks from my mask. They don't go away :( I don't care much about the indentations in my hair since that's on the back of my head & I don't have to see it.

Folks who don't like what the headgear does to the face and hair...or just don't like headgear in general.

There's a new nasal mask slated for release next week...
The Bleep/DreamPort nasal mask.
See the reviews here along with discussion.

There is a fix for the top strap and the dent in your hair. Karen at Padacheek makes a strap cover that works like a charm. I have one on my P10 and it works just fine..... and its cheap :wink:

Cheers

Thanks so much for the suggestions, everyone! Some good ideas to try, here.

Does the tappap bother your front teeth after awhile? Does it bother you not having your lips closed all the way?

This new Bleep/DreamPort mask is really interesting, seems like a great idea. Do you get any irritation where the things are stuck onto your nose? $2 a day though, that adds up.

I've always felt like there should be some kind of "caulk" that comes in a tube that you would squeeze a small bead around each nostril then embed your nasal pillow into it and it would stay put until you peel it off in the morning. Kind of like that stuff that credit cards come stuck on to a letter with, lol. Or maybe like denture adhesive.

I just remembered, when I used the Swift FX, I tried just taping the two side tabs on my face with a piece of the 3m wide tape and ditching the headgear altogether. It actually worked but it was kind of a pain to get up to go to the bathroom during the night. But I could never get a leak-free seal on that mask.

Now there's an invention waiting to happen: nose caulk! :lol: Maybe mouth caulk too for us mouth breaters!

No straps on the head but let me tell you....the marks it makes coming from the ears to the nose are quite remarkable.
It makes some serious dents in the cheeks even with Padacheek strap pads. Those dents was my main grip about the Bella Loops.

Joking aside- I am male with short but full hair on top- I have the respironics dreamwear gear with the tube on top- first I tried a cushion type pad, then a thin night cap neither which seemed to stop the dent (not sure if it was my hair or scalp, although I could feel dent in my scalp- but for sure the hair was beginning to be permanently dented and I feared getting a bald worn spot). I then tried a knit beanie cap (thicker) which stopped the dent but got too hot and was difficult to readjust every time I had to take off during the night. Finally I took a old “baseball cap” and used a razor blade to cut the stitching holding on the bill, removed the bill. Now I have a lightweight solution that keeps the upper air tube away from my head- after a couple months I have found it works great and no more dent or worrying about losing my hair on top. Hope this helps anyone else.

I have long hair so I sleep with my hair in a topknot with a satin scrunchie. That seems to have taken care of it.

~~~ me too, riversong. The topknot works perfectly with the dreamwear as it stabilizes the hose and I can wear a larger size frame way back on my head very loosely and with my face nearly entirely free.
My childhood gurlfriend who is a true hair artist and own a super chic salon always says for all her clients to wear a topknot to bed as it will avoid breakage on the outside of the hair everyone sees. Any breakage will be on the underside.
...she also adds a miniscule amount of tigi catwalk at the roots to before putting it up which gives a tiny lift that makes every style look better.
They make really really tiny covered rubber bands for short hair, but the satin scrunchies require longer thicker hair.
Make EVERY DAY a good hair day!
