Can I wash Airsense 10 filters
Can I wash Airsense 10 filters
I have the regular filters. It's been almost two months since I got my machine. I thought maybe I should change the filter. The DME had given me two replacements. The new filter and the used one looked identical...the used one shows no sign of dust or dirt. The DME had told me I could wash these filters and reuse them as long as I made sure they were dry. However the ResMed info say to never wash and reuse them. Wondering what other people do.
I'm going to order the hypoallergenic filters from cpap.com one of these days to see what they are like.

Re: Can I wash Airsense 10 filters
Filters are cheap.....don't wash them and if they are clean...personally I would not change them. I think ResMed says 6 months or sooner if necessary. Read your manual.

Re: Can I wash Airsense 10 filters
as LSAT says, don't wash them.............they are designed as disposable filters.
There are two types for the Airsense, Standard filters, and Hypoallergenic Filters which filter smaller particles.........you can get them from cpap.com pretty cheap, personally I prefer the hypoallergenic, they are a little better in the Allergy months for filtering dust and pollen.
$12 for pack of six, and as LSAT mentioned Resmed recommends changing filter AT LEAST every six months..............some people change sooner than that, sorta up to your personal preference. Once you start changing them and comparing a dirty one to a clean one you'll start to get a feel for how fast they get dirty enough that you'd like to change them......if it's especially dusty where you run your machine you might want to change more often than the six months standard cycle.

I have an old, dusty house too, so I'm surprised mine still looks ok. I'm going to order the hypoallergenic filters which look like a good deal especially if they last a while.
Re: Can I wash Airsense 10 filters
So I was servicing our cpap machines tonight and cracked open the filter lid and pulled the filter out and holy moly! They had a grayish tinge to them and when tapped the filters the dust was flying off of it. Nasty to say the least. My wife’s had a brownish colored dust that her unit must’ve picked on her travels.
I know Resmed and others have said to just replace them but I thought I try to backwash the filters using warm water under the tap. I didn’t rub the filters or anything just flushed them really good and let them dry on a towel and then I used a hairdryer to give it a good blast of heat to make sure they were completely dried. They were good as new, had no dust, where white as new and you’d never be able tell that I washed them.
I guess my question is do these filters have a special filter media sandwiched between the coarse fiberglass looking exterior? I have ordered some replacement filters anyways but thought I’d ask if anyone has tried what I did.

Yes, you can wash them, just remember to throw them away and put New filters in your machine, as the manufacturer calls for, cheap ins for you and your XPAP's health. Jim

Re: Can I wash Airsense 10 filters
Sometimes a filter "looks" like a material that is OK to wash.
It might even look all right after washing. What you DON'T see is the important bit.
They are a sacrificial material, like a fuse--a cheap thing to prevent expensive damage.
Cutting corners could cost a bundle!
Don't be tempted.

Re: Can I wash Airsense 10 filters
We use the hypoallergenic filters in our machines. I check them once a month and change then when they look like they need it. This time of year, I change them every month in an attempt to control our allergies. As others have said, they are cheap. I bought a bunch when cpap.com had them on sale. Right now, I have over a year's supply on hand. When I get low, I will see what I can find on sale.

Re: Can I wash Airsense 10 filters
Hmm okay. I was so sure that they could be washed since they look like the same coarse filter media used in my son’s aquarium filter. That being said a $2.00 filter isn’t worth messing up my apap machine.
For my own scientific research I’d like to know exactly what the material is and why they recommend against washing. I even shone a bright light through it earlier to examine if there was another layer inside the filter but it appears to have none. Just coarse polyester like fibers all the way through.

The filters are to prevent dust getting into the machine not anything to do with your lungs.Goofproof wrote: ↑Wed Apr 03, 2019 10:35 pmAPAP machines are cheap, price a pair of lungs! Re: Can I wash Airsense 10 filters
I've washed them, and it works fine. Lots of fear and uncertainty in this thread. Just be gentle, use a gentle soap, and let them dry fully before putting back in the machine. Yes, they are cheap and last a long time, but if you want to wash them, nothing bad will happen.
