Popping/fluttering when inhaling
Popping/fluttering when inhaling
I started using a c-pap around February. I'm using the AirSense 10 with the AirFit N20 mask (the one that just goes around your nose and not the mouth). I've gotten used to sleeping with it and now have trouble going to sleep without it. However, for the past 2-3 nights I've noticed when I inhale I get a fluttering/popping sound coming from right where the mask connects to the tubing. I've adjusted the mask and even tried putting a new nose piece on thinking the seal was bad. I've unattached the hose and re-attached to make sure it's connected correctly. I have the heated hose and have always kept it on the auto setting for climate and humidty. Last night I tried adjusting the temp up and humidity down to see if that would change things. Still any time I breathe in you hear "pop, pop, pop." If I take a very shallow breath in, it didn't seem to do it but as soon as I started falling to sleep and breathing deeper it would start up again. You only hear the noise when I inhale, it's quiet the rest of the time. I've ended up taking it off the past few nights and just sleeping without it because I'm spending so much time trying to figure out what the problem was. Any ideas or has anyone had anything similar happen?
Re: Popping/fluttering when inhaling
Sounds like moisture.
Are you washing your mask daily? Any chance of a slight amount of moisture remaining in the mask especially at that connection?
Washed the hose recently? Sometimes just a few droplets of water left in the hose will make that pop pop annoying sound.

Try checking the hose connections further down the line. Small hose to big hose and big hose to machine. I also use the N-20. Last time that happened to me, my climateline hose had come lose at the connection to the machine and wasn't pushed all the way in.

Re: Popping/fluttering when inhaling
I usually wash the mask once or twice a week, not daily like they say. I keep checking for moisture because I went through old posts on here and saw that has been a complaint. Didn't know, though, if it would only happen when I inhaled. I think I'll also take everything apart and try connecting everything back together and see if that helps. Maybe I didn't get it all back together tight after I washed it the last time. I would rather use the auto setting on the temp and humidity if possible just because I don't understand enough what it needs to be at if it's not on auto so hoping one of these other ideas will help. Just ready to get back to sleeping again!! Thanks for the suggestions.

Mine does that if there is too much OR too little water in the humidifier tank.

I came to this question to find an answer as to why my nasal pillow just began making popping noises when I breathed in deeply. I found the answer! Many thanks to the member who suggested checking the hoses
🥰. After checking the big hose connection to the machine - no more popping!! Hello good night’s sleep Zzzz
