Fixing AirMini drawstring bag

Post by psteckler » Tue May 28, 2019 7:04 pm

Today I acquired a ResMed AirMini for travel this summer. I put the unit, power supply, and hose in the provided bag, and gave the drawstring a good tug.

Oops, one of the black plastic nuts on the drawstring fell off, and a piece of string came off the bag completely.

Anyone know how to re-attach those bits?

You're asking how to thread a drawstring through the bag?

tie the end of the string to something stiff, such as a safety pin, or tape it to a short rod, and push that through where the string goes, it'll pull the string with it.

No, I'm not. There's a black plastic nut that's become detached from the string. It looks like it opens, somehow, but I don't want to break it. The nut on the other side is still attached.

There's also a piece of string that was somehow threaded with another string, which is still in place. It's not simply a matter of pushing the string through.

Well, in that case, please disregard my previous message... without seeing what you're working on, I wouldn't hazard a guess. Hopefully someone that has one can help.

Just guessing, but could the "nut" be a spring loaded slider that holds the string tight when released?
Depressing the button opens the hole so that cord may be re-inserted.
You might want to replace the flimsy cording for a better quality product.
Shoelaces are often a good substitute, the grip may be good enough you can discard the slider.

Take the bag (empty!) to a fabric store like Joanne fabrics and ask for help. They will be able to show you replacements for the black plastic pieces and how to install them.

No, it seems to be fixed in place.

Did the same thing a while back. There are two drawstrings one for each side, so two pieces of rope through the bag. One of two options:

1. There is a small knot where the two strings come together I just grabbed an awl (knitting needle, ice pick etc) and stuffed it back into the plastic cover hole.

2. Only use one side grab one of those spring loaded jacket drawstring or hood thingmajiggies, slide it on and tie a knot it the cord so the thingmajiggy can't come off.

either way poor design not meant to be pulled on just to protect the raw end of the cord

I have an old resmed drawstring (mask) bag, where the cord ends are in similar plastic tabs.
The tab only exists to protect the ends--and maybe to hold two ends together.
Mine looks like the tabs could possibly be pried apart.
If so, they could be put back together, and glued if needed.
Or just cut them off, and wrap in scotch tape--like shoelace tips.
Some designs are more vanity than utility.

Scotch--"Frog" is a brand of premium masking tape.
Save that for painting--or rather NOT painting--that which should not be painted.
Taped ends on shoelaces are called "aglets". 8)

only if you use the good stuff. Tried using the cheap green painter's tape and the paint bled onto the taped surface PITA. So went back to using the name brand stuff .

I fixed it!

I used a knife to pry open the plastic nut. There's a hole in the nut where the two pieces of cord come in, that's where I stuck the knife, the other end is hinged.

I used an unwound metal hanger and some Scotch tape to push the cord through the sheath in the top of the bag, side by side with the other cord. Then I snapped the nut closed on the two cord ends.

Good as new!
