New AirFit F20 and some issues
New AirFit F20 and some issues
Going from nasal (P10) to FFM (F20) after having some issues with nasal masks and wanting to try something different.
I'm only two nights in but my blind optimism is already wavering a bit after seeing these charts. So far....
Pros:
- No more ridiculous mouth tape, head strap, neck collar, pre-sleep ritual.
- Magnet straps are super convenient. Easy on/off.
- Quiet vent ports, not bothered at all.
- I can mouth breathe, nose breathe, or both.
Cons:
- Leaks
- Dry mouth even at 5 humidity and refilling the reservoir becomes far more frequent.
- Mask seems to ride up a bit and frame can bother the eyes.
- Bottom jaw falls out of mask (source of leaks maybe??)
I'm using the silicone cushion, not the memory foam. It seals well when I do my movement tests before falling asleep. The leaks always seem to come toward the end or second half of the night which I would imagine is why my naps often feel better than my entire night. So far it feels a little easier to sleep longer and deeper but the quality is not good which I realize doesn't really even make sense. Anyway here's the charts, any input is appreciated.

Re: New AirFit F20 and some issues
Sorry about the difficult transition. Do you have the correct size mask? If you do, try different strap adjustments before switching to the memory foam option. The memory foam F20 was the mask that I ultimately ended up with after using several other masks.

Re: New AirFit F20 and some issues
There is a size chart that comes with it and I’m definitely a medium. I could probably use a small headgear though as I have the straps cranked down pretty good on this one. I’m running out of available Velcro spacebombayone wrote: ↑Fri Jun 21, 2019 2:23 pmSorry about the difficult transition. Do you have the correct size mask? The headgear only comes in one size. I just switched to this model too. The headgear is big - made for a giant's head. I ended up with the "For Her" version which is just a little smaller (was hoping a lot smaller) but it is a pretty purple color. Otherwise it's exactly the same.

Re: New AirFit F20 and some issues
Yes I feel the same way. Who's head is this big right? Yeah I'd like to try the small headgear. I can either cough up the $20 for it, or return the entire setup and get the "for her" version which comes with the smaller headgear by default. The masks themselves are exactly the same as I understand it. I feel a bit guilty returning the entire thing just for the headgear swap so I'll probably just cough up the $20. Bummer it's only a little smaller though. Thanks for that info BTW.Chris8243 wrote: ↑Fri Jun 21, 2019 6:36 pmThe headgear only comes in one size. I just switched to this model too. Re: New AirFit F20 and some issues
The mask sizing is a little different also. I found that the regular small was too small, then the regular medium was too big. The medium "For Her" was just right. The "For Her" sizing is slightly smaller.Sluggish wrote: ↑Fri Jun 21, 2019 7:46 pmYes I feel the same way. Who's head is this big right? Yeah I'd like to try the small headgear. Oh. Well this kinda changes things as far as my return goes. Others have stated they are the same size, are you sure?Chris8243 wrote: ↑Fri Jun 21, 2019 7:53 pmThe mask sizing is a little different also. Also, have you ever had issues with your bottom jaw falling out the bottom?

Re: New AirFit F20 and some issues
Yes, I'm sure. Happened to check my insurance claims today, got the first F-20 on May 23rd, one month ago. Started with regular small, then a regular medium, now using a "For Her" medium. I'm out of town or I would take pictures to show you.
The DME's, in my experience with 3 of them, really don't mind switching supplies. The manufacturer allows a 30-day return period so it's not costing the DME anything. The first DME I started with wanted my trades back and then the other two told me to just keep them because they literally had to throw them in the garbage. So now I have a couple of spares, even though they don't fit well, good to have a back-up.
To answer your bottom jaw question: not quite sure what you mean. Supposed to fit in the spot between your bottom lip and your chin, not under your jaw. I've felt my bottom lip too close to the edge using size small, and when I'd reposition for my mouth, it pinched my nose. Finding a mask that fits is kinda like Goldilocks & the 3 Bears: too small, too big, just right.

Re: New AirFit F20 and some issues
I don’t think I need a smaller mask and large is definitely too big according to the size chart. Apparently I’m a mouth breather. So much in fact that my mouth is so wide open that my bottom lip (entire jaw really) ends up outside the mask. I don’t know how else to explain it. It probably doesn’t help that the mask tends to ride up a bit also.Chris8243 wrote: ↑Fri Jun 21, 2019 8:40 pmYes, I'm sure. Sounds like you need a bigger cushion, that should solve most or all your cons.Sluggish wrote: ↑Fri Jun 21, 2019 1:56 pmGoing from nasal (P10) to FFM (F20) after having some issues with nasal masks and wanting to try something different.

DON'T trust the sizing tool, trust your face (and how things feel).
Easy enough to buy a single larger cushion and try it, and rest of the headgear is the same.

Re: New AirFit F20 and some issues
“Easy enough” at $150 a pop sure.
Are you saying I can put a large size cushion on a medium size frame? I’m pretty sure I would need an entire new mask in size large. I can use the return insurance but what if large is not my size and I’ve already sent back my medium?
The medium is perfect from the bridge of my nose to the little crease between my bottom lip and chin. Perfect until I fall asleep and start moving then it slides up a bit and my bottom jaw relaxes itself out of the mask.

Also I see two masks in your signature. Do you mind me asking which mask you like better and why?

The F20 uses one size frame and headgear for all size cushions. On Amazon, the cushions are under $30 each. The frame fits both AirFit and AirTouch cushions.
