Dent in my head from the straps
Hi!
I've been on my machine for 9 years now. I noticed that I have indentations around my head where the mask straps go, enough so that it actually shows up sometimes in how my hair lays lol.
I can't loosen the straps because then the mask won't stay on.
Is this normal? Does anyone else have this?
It doesn't hurt or anything and most definitely is a 1st world problem lol, I'm just curious.
Thank you!!

Re: Dent in my head from the straps
I have dents on my face, that formed from wearing glasses for decades.
Headgear grooves only help keep my mask in place.
They are functional

Re: Dent in my head from the straps
Unless you have some serious issues, you don't have dents in your skull, just the soft tissue, where some fluid is pressed out...DianeMDennis wrote: ↑Tue Nov 19, 2019 3:13 pmHi!

It's not "normal", but also not unheard of.

Look at the bleep mask no straps to cause dents

I looked like a grey headed Ace Ventura before I figured that out, especially with the top-hosed style masks.

Re: Dent in my head from the straps
Thank you everyone, I'll check out and try out the suggestions.
Good to know that while it might not be "normal" it's at least not unheard of. It is nice that it helps the straps to stay put instead of sliding around.
It happens to my face too but that goes away during the day. Oh man, it just occurred to me that it would not be fun if that stops going away and stays all day like the rest. I'll have more to worry about than how my hair lays!
Thank you again everyone!

Re: Dent in my head from the straps
Strap pads/covers can help reduce the dents either on the scalp or the face. Pads/covers help dissipate the pressure a bit so less chance of such a big dent.
Dents are a fluid distribution issue....some people just have bodies that don't disperse the fluids or even them out very quickly.
I never had them much on the scalp probably because I always wore my masks with straps so loose but I get them easily on my cheeks.
One of the reasons I went to the Bleep mask which doesn't have any straps anywhere.
You might look at the Padacheek strap covers...see if anything looks like it might be interesting to try on your straps.
If you are handy you could probably make something similar.

Re: Dent in my head from the straps
Thank you! This reminds that I had cushions to put on my straps at one time and now I'm wondering whatever happened, why I don't use them any longer. I need to find them and try them again.Pugsy wrote: ↑Tue Nov 19, 2019 5:26 pmStrap pads/covers can help reduce the dents either on the scalp or the face. Ice on face marks helps first thing.
Re: Dent in my head from the straps
I had the "Cow Lick" in my hair from CPAP straps. I'll also recommend the previously mentioned padacheek.com strap covers. They do help bunches with the strap marks on your face. But depending on how much hair you have, the strap covers may or may not help. Anything pressing on your hair while you sleep can be expected to shape your hair, just like my hippy Aunt back in the 60's who always went to sleep with enormous hair rollers.DianeMDennis wrote: ↑Tue Nov 19, 2019 3:13 pmHi!

My worst "hair-swoop" was from the strap that went over the top of my head (Resmed F30 mask headgear). I've since cured that for the most part by switching to a mask with different headgear (SleepWeaver Elan) that sits further back on my head and does not have to be cinched down as tightly. Still get some hair shaping, but it's the least so far.
What I found works best: When you get up, either wet your hair with water (as hot as comfortable), or shampoo your hair.
And if all else fails and the hair-swoop wins? Consider it a mark of the CPAP tribe. It's how we can identify each other as we pass by. Just smile and nod knowingly.

Re: Dent in my head from the straps
You all want to see dents?
I have woke up with dents in my face/cheeks from the sleeping on the short hose. Now that is a sight to see for sure. Imprint of the short hose all across my face.
How I can sleep comfortably on it using a buckwheat hull pillow is a mystery but I sometimes do and everyone gets a big laugh at those dents. I have done it though 4 or 5 times since using the Bleep. Fortunately a rare occurrence or else I would end up having to put a hose cover that was fairly padded on the short hose and that would add a lot of weight. Usually takes the bigger part of the day to dissipate too. Highly annoying.

Only she refuses to let cameras near here at those times...
I do have a picture of the real pugsy... she's gorgeous... (in all fairness, it was a glamor shot.. but ... wow.
