Bleep/DreamPort nasal mask review thread

With a more aggressive cutting down of the adhesive strips and the P10 hose, I have to admit that this is a game changer. It's the closest I've had to feeling like not wearing a CPAP mask at all. With the face torque gone and some basic hose management, you can freely roll about and use a lot of traditional pillow positions. I actually took one of my giant foam pillows out of the closet and buried my head in it, putting my usual CPAP mask cut-out pillow aside.

0% leak. Literally zero. This device has the potential to singlehandedly make compliance rates go up for new users I think.

Only downside on a forward looking basis is the cost. I wish there were a way to buy in bulk out of pocket for a discount. Contemplating the long term ramifications of how much I like this mask, and it's pretty much akin to buying daily contacts. $600 doesn't seem so bad for a year of this, but then I contemplate the idea of going 5+ years and spending thousands of dollars on 3M tape and plastic. Still can't help but feel that I'm just going to suck it up for now and buy more, because this is hands down the best CPAP experience I've had from a comfort perspective.

Thanks, Pugsy, for posting this. I just watched it and have already ordered the hose holder. I already have the Cozy Hoze Boss and really liked using it before I started using the Bleep. Looking forward to trying both together tomorrow night!

I was unable to adjust to the P10. It made my nose sore, not just my nare, but the bridge. It also put pressure on my teeth. The backstrap/headgear did not stay in place. (Granted, this was an issue with ALL masks...my hair is VERY slippery and the back of my head is very flat so straps slide up easily and constantly). The strap slipping would cause the mask to shift position and leak. I was waking multiple times per night to adjust mask/straps. Since the Bleep physically attaches to my nose, these issues are avoided. This makes it a MASSIVE upgrade for me. YMMV

I upgraded my hose on the Bleep to one from a P10 and thats a huge upgrade. The softer hose really increases comfort because the ports dont get yanked around..

Im sadly still fighting sealing issues. Every night I go to bed sealed and thinking "Tonight's the night!" and by 5AM Im being woken up by a leak. Its typically in the same spot too. Im playing around with different hose temperature and humidity settings now to see if that can make a difference. I wish there was a heavy duty tape option for the ports. I think I may fall into the 2% of the population that the adhesive wont stay stuck to. Id rather peel a layer of skin off than have leaks and be able to take the tape off effortlessly.

I wonder if a layer of tape applied over the adhesive on the nostril where the leak seems to happen could maybe help.
Encompass a little more of skin itself with the second layer. In other words tape the adhesive to the skin with more tape.

Are you experiencing any moisture at all in the mask? Condensation in the mask can happen and that can cause adhesive failure.
If you are...and you are using a heated hose then just increase the hose air temperature especially now that you have added the longer P10 hose.

I talked to Stuart about that and I turned my humidity setting down to 1. My hose temp was 81 that night. I made it until about 5AM before it blew out.

I could try some tape.. Ive tried using bits from the ports as reinforcement but it doesnt really help. Id have to use something more heavy duty which wont be fun to remove but I can give it a go.

Ive also tried the skin prep pads. They helped some but still didnt keep things sealed up.

I have another idea I want to try but Im going to have to do some fabrication to make it work. Maybe a trip to Lowes this weekend and I can increase my chances of success

I see there are a lot of modifications people are recommending to improve the experience of using the mask but it's a bit confusing going over all the pages .
Could someone please give a summary if possible? Using a different hose, using a CPAP filter as a diffuser, something about teflon tape and rubberbands?

Start with the Bleep just as it is and be sure to watch Stuart's videos on how to apply the Bleep.
You may not need to modify anything.
I am happy with the hose....I understand that some people aren't but some people are happy with the hose as it is.
Some people the venting doesn't bother them.
People are always putting their own little twists on things....happens with any mask out there...because everyone have different preferences, wants and needs.
He might be totally happy with the Bleep just as it is. If not, then worry about modifying something.

The Bleep short hose isn't all that stiff but it's short so you don't get much chance for it to make use of what flexibility it does have.
If it is an issue and your grandpa likes the mask otherwise...putting a longer more flexible hose on it is easy.
A couple of ResMed mask hoses will fit and I wouldn't be surprised if some others wouldn't fit as well.
The use of a filter as a diffuser is an easy fix as well.
Those are really the only 2 main modifications. Rubber bands can be used to secure the filter but it's not really needed if you cut the hole for the hose to go through the diffuser filter so that it fits snug.

Jason is such a character. I just love watching his videos. He makes boring turn into fun.

A side note.....I have graduated...I no longer look in the mirror to attach the ports to the clips. I never could seem to come to grips with doing that part backwards and I can now just attach them without even looking. Much faster and more complete attaching with less redos.
I still do the attaching of the ports to the skin with mirror help though.
