Water or not
AirSense 10 AutoSet, is there an option to use water or not?
Re: Water or not
There is no specific setting that states water or not.
But it can be used without water by turning the humidity setting to 0 and then it won't heat up the water chamber.

Re: Water or not
...or if you have one (or can access one) there is a blanking plate that can be used to replace the Water Reservoir altogether.
This has the added benefit of making the machine slightly quieter as well.

Re: Water or not
For most people, added humidity is a MUST--even though a few find it unnecessary.
Some old school providers consider it a "luxury"--my nose disagrees. (dry hurts)
Moisture helps fight dust and microbes by catching them until they can be carried out by nature.
I suggest you try using humidity before you invest in the end cap.
Like me, you may enjoy fewer infections (like who "enjoys" those?)

Re: Water or not
I used CPAP for about 17-18 years with no humidifier, and then a new (to me) doctor insisted that I get a humidifier for my old "Tank" Respironics BiPap and I immediately rested better, and experienced much less nasal congestion. BUT I accept that everyone is different and some patients get along fine without a humidifier. It is a personal choice. However I simply would never use a non humidified syestem now.

I use my humidifier once or twice a year.... whenever my sinuses start acting up. To me, it's a pain in the butt. As the Froggie stated, a lot of folks need it. To each it's own.

Hola...
I moved from a dry New Mexico climate to the coast of Washington. No need for humidifier here...my sinuses do better without.

And, if you want to detach the humidifier for a smaller machine for travel, you will need this side cover - https://www.cpap.com/productpage/resmed ... side-coverb44smith5166 wrote: ↑Fri Feb 14, 2020 5:26 amAirSense 10 AutoSet, is there an option to use water or not?
Re: Water or not
My doctor put my need for humidification in my prescription, and I was told I had to use it by the sleep technician to prevent nose bleeds and complications. They led me to believe that using humidification would make APAP therapy more comfortable. I use my humidifier every night. I now realize that doctors and sleep study technicians don't know everything, and I may be okay without the humidifier, but I am nervous about testing that theory. I am prone to sinus infections and have serious allergies, so I am inclined to believe I really do need it.

If my tank runs dry, It is miserable enough to wake me up.
It doesn't smell really good, either.

Re: Water or not
If you want to test it, taper it down. Turn it down just one notch for a few nights. If that works for you, you can try turning it down another notch.
You can always turn it back to your current setting.
You may find that during certain seasons, like winter heating, you need humidity and in warmer seasons you don't.

Re: Water or not
You can also try with the humidifier off but with water in it. You still get some pass over humidity as the air passes over the water.

Re: Water or not
I am just going to keep using my humidifier. I am very comfortable with using it. I have a feeling based on my own health issues that APAP therapy would be uncomfortable without it. I have had my tank run dry once & I did wake up to a bloody nose. I was filling my tank up to the lowest line at that time because I found I was not using a full tank of water. Now, I fill my tank all the way full so that I don't run out of water. I use tap water that has been softened & filtered, so I don't spend a lot on water and dumping it out every day is not a big deal for me.

Re: Water or not
I did get rain out once when I had the humidity level set too high. 4 is a good setting for my machine. if you have it lower than that & are still getting rain out, then something is wrong with the machine or hose or there is already too much humidity in the air to begin with.
