Custom-made masks in USA?

Post by wannasmile » Mon Jul 27, 2020 9:30 pm

I'm wondering if anyone here knows of any sources in the USA that make custom-fit full-face masks.
As in, they scan your face and then make a full-face mask that fits you perfectly.
I have looked online a bit and it seems that every time I find a supplier, they have gone out of business, ceased making custom masks, or are located in some other country.
Maybe there is a place and I'm just overlooking it.
Please let me know the details if you know anyone, and especially if you've had experience with this.

The reason I need/want a custom mask is because there is no full-face mask that fits me properly, due to multiple problems with my nose.
I've been fitted a bunch of times and tried a bunch of masks, and they never fit properly, no matter which model or how much I adjust it.
So I've been using the nasal pillow for years now, and I love it due to the comfort and also the feeling of increased pressure which helps me breathe better, but it's not giving me the full treatment I need, I'm pretty sure I sleep with my mouth open. I've tried multiple solutions for the open-mouth and none of them have worked, either. In fact, any attempt to keep my mouth closed actually makes me feel worse, not better. Probably due to my nose getting congested and then I am basically suffocating.
All I want is to feel good again. To feel rested. To have my health improve. It's been years and still I haven't had this. (Although partial treatment with the nasal pillow is still way better than without the APAP at all; at least I don't wake up with headaches and nausea anymore)
I'm extremely frustrated and have given up multiple times regarding finding a solution, only to try again for a solution every so often and then give up again.
So, here, I am, hoping I can find a custom-mask supplier and get this issue fixed once and for all.

Thank you for any help you can offer.

There was a co. in ? Australia a few yrs ago that did that, but it cost a fortune and no, I have no idea now if they're even around, let alone a name. Have you googled?

If nasal pillows are working for you, have you tried any of the under-the-nose full face masks like DreamWear Full Face, Amara View, F30, or F30i? They all have cushions that cover your mouth and seal against the bottom of you nose (i.e. where the nostril openings are). If none of those would work there is a full face mask that uses nasal pillows called the Resmed Mirage Liberty you could check out.

THANK YOU! You listed two which I haven't tried, the F30 and the Mirage Liberty. Looking at pics, I am betting the Mirage Liberty is the closest possible thing to my ideal mask, not including a custom-made option. The only issue will be if the mouthpiece seals properly and the mask doesn't leak too much. I will see if I can try one of those the next time I am up for new gear :D

If the ResMed Liberty looks appealing to you ...check out the Innomed/Respcare Hybrid. It also uses the nasal pillows and comes with more sizes of cushions included in the package so you can try different cushion sizes more easily. With the Liberty you have to decide ahead of time what size you need.
https://www.cpap.com/productpage/RespCa ... -CPAP-Mask

If you ever want to try something from cpap.com....they will require a RX on file for complete mask packages but all the mask packages come with free return insurance meaning if you hate it...you return it (be sure and read the return policy) and get a refund.
No more buying something and getting stuck with it and no where for it to go and losing money.
They don't file insurance for you though. They are more for when you are willing to buy something out of pocket and don't need or want insurance involved.

It’s great that new types of masks keep getting developed. I really liked F30 and F30i masks but one had noisy vents and the other had too much pull from hose which broke the mask seal at certain times of the night. Thanks for the tip on the new Mirage Liberty as I will probably give it a try in a seemingly endless quest to get away from the full face mask.

The ResMed Liberty isn't "new" it's been around at least since I started cpap therapy back in 2009. It's been around a long time.
Now the F 30 and F 30i models....those are relatively new in the grand scheme of things.

Thanks. I will give it a try. Maybe it’s better.

As far as insurance goes, remember that once you actually do find a mask that works, after your initial outlay out of pocket, you can always go back to using your insurance. That will certainly help with the ongoing cost once you have decided what you want to use.

Circadiance makes a full face CLOTH mask, the Sleepweaver Anew.
I have only used their nasal masks, but there is almost no pressure on or near the nose.
It might be worth trying . . .

I just called my supplier and they said that ResMed discontinued the Mirage Liberty. I could probably find one online somewhere, but eventually they would become unavailable :x

I hadn't heard that it was to be discontinued but it wouldn't surprise me. The Liberty wasn't new back in 2009 and the new F30 and F30i models were probably the intended replacements.

Though I will say this...call ResMed and ask them if the Liberty has indeed been discontinued. I don't trust anything that comes out of a DME's mouth until I hear it from the direct source. It wouldn't be the first time a DME has simply said "so and so has been discontinued" because they simply didn't want to stock something because it wasn't moving.

Masks do come and go with time though. It might be that ResMed is discontinuing the Liberty but always ask the manufacturer to get the true story.

I see that cpap.com still has the Liberty listed for sale--marked down to around $165.
Free return insurance, also.
