it is not possible to get brand new unused cpap machine from resmed

i am sure everyone on this board knows HME system makes it impossible to know if CPAP machine sold to you as brand new may be used before, refurbished, etc. There is no federal law as fr as i know requiring disclosure. If HME tells you it is brand new, it does not mean it was not used by someone else. Serial number is not something you can verify independently. for example my Resmed serial number starts with 2319, maybe it was manufactured last year. Resmed would never disclose when it was shipped to HME. Resmed warranty is for 2 years starting when HME purchased it. If HME had it in warehouse for 1 year and then shipped it to patient warranty is only for 1 year and then patient on mercy of HME to stay in business and may be will honor 2 year warranty. So HME can send patient refurbished CPAP, bill it to insurance company as new at cost of about $1100 while it can be purchased online for half of that. This is the system created by HME lobbyists, FDA, Resmed, etc. But here is my question. Is there any way around this nightmare? How can i improve my chances of getting brand new unused machine? It appears on line is better chance, as machine will have 30 day return policy. I know impossible to bill to insurance but i dont care. Just keep ordering on line until magical 2320 shows up on label? Or just accept any garbage HME ships as long as it looks new? I get new water chamber, hose. So do i even care if it was used before?

What the Hell are you talking about?!?!
Of course there's a way to see if they're brand new/unused.......you check the "Run Hours" on a ResMed machine and the "Blower Hours" on other brands like Philips/Respironics.
AND, if you don't trust your local DME/HME, you buy one from a reputable seller like CPAP.COM.

Purchasing out-of-pocket usually ends up being about the same as paying for deductibles, co-pays and other hidden costs of going through a local DME with insurance coverage.

Personally, I have NEVER purchased a machine, mask or any other supplies through a local DME. All of my equipment and supplies have been purchased through online and/or private sellers. I've never have had a problem with any of them.
Probably saved TONS of money in the process, too.

So far, my original machine, the one they replaced it with, and the one I purchased on line were all new, unused machines with zero hours on the blower. My wife's machine was brought to the house by the DME still in the sealed ResMed shipping package. It also showed zero hours on the blower. If you can't find a new, unused machine where you have been checking, it is time to find a new supplier.

can crafty dme erase data to reset run hours to zero? in my case run hours show time i used, but when i ask dme if anyone used machine before me, they would not answer.

It probably won't be zero, because they are tested at the factory. Alsp factory repaired warranty machines can be reset, to zero at the repair shop for warranty replacement. Jim

i meant to say HME billing insurance company $1100 while i am getting machine they are telling is new but because they can erase data i have no way of knowing if anyone before me used it. I dont have deductible and coinsurance so machine does not cost me anything. I just want brand new unused machine for $1100. Insurance will not cover anything from online retailer
