Wedge pillow
Wedge pillow
Hello, i recently did a surgery related to apnea and doctor removed tissues from my throat, epiglottis and adjusted the base of my tongue as that was my apnea causing issue after that he recommended to sleep on a wedge pillow but i keep sliding down the wedge pillow and cant stay on it, any help on how can i stay on the wedge without sliding?
Re: Wedge pillow
You may have some trouble getting answers here because what most of us see as a minor inconvenience (the pillow issue) is nothing compared to what we've seen previously in patients who have such surgery done to pay for the surgeon's new country house (or trip to Paris, etc). People who have all that done too often find it doesn't prevent apnea but has complicated future treatment by irreversible surgery. Do you think so many of us would be on Cpap for decades if a one-time surgery would fix it? I feel bad for you as you apparently had no advice prior to your operation re whether it would even work - could have asked us - and now are concerned about using a pillow (for which I have no answer either). I hope things work out for you, hope your apnea goes away and hope you find an answer to the pillow problem. I suggest you get another PSG test in a few months. Good luck.

Sew a strip of velcro on the seat of your PJs and another strip on the top sheet.Espada wrote: ↑Mon Sep 07, 2020 3:07 amHello, i recently did a surgery related to apnea and doctor removed tissues from my throat, epiglottis and adjusted the base of my tongue as that was my apnea causing issue after that he recommended to sleep on a wedge pillow but i keep sliding down the wedge pillow and cant stay on it, any help on how can i stay on the wedge without sliding?
Seriously, when you use a wedge pillow, your torso bends. This can cause reflux in some people. Or, you can buy a long wedge pillow that places the bend at the hips.
The best alternative to wedge pillows is raising the head of the bed by about four inches. (Most wedge pillows are only four inches thick anyway.) Raising the head of the bed can be easily accomplished with the use of bed risers - https://www.bedbathandbeyond.com/store/s/bed-risers and other sellers.
BTW, this, "he recommended to sleep on a wedge pillow", is an indication your doctor does not think the surgery totally solved your problem with sleep-breathing. You need to keep it checked.
Re: Wedge pillow
CPAP wasn't working for me as i had 3 issues blocking the airways " enlarged tissues due to acid reflux bot treated for long periods the base of my tongue and epiglottis relaxing and blocking the airway " plus the dr offered two option either surgery or some kind of device strapped to my jaw everytime i sleep so i chose i surgery and the surgery was on the insurance and it was discounted very much from what he would originally charge if i didn't have an insurance plus i wanna live CPAP freeJulie wrote: ↑Mon Sep 07, 2020 7:45 amYou may have some trouble getting answers here because what most of us see as a minor inconvenience (the pillow issue) is nothing compared to what we've seen previously in patients who have such surgery done to pay for the surgeon's new country house (or trip to Paris, etc). Re: Wedge pillow
I am still in recovery period but the wedge is mainly due to acid reflux and i choke at my own saliva as epiglottis job was to keep food and water from going to my nose which i fail at sometimes at night i had the surgery at 16/8/2020 which still too early to judge how my breathing at night will be as i still can't sleep much because of the pain and i am not a fan of pain killersChicagoGranny wrote: ↑Mon Sep 07, 2020 8:23 amSew a strip of velcro on the seat of your PJs and another strip on the top sheet.Espada wrote: ↑Mon Sep 07, 2020 3:07 amHello, i recently did a surgery related to apnea and doctor removed tissues from my throat, epiglottis and adjusted the base of my tongue as that was my apnea causing issue after that he recommended to sleep on a wedge pillow but i keep sliding down the wedge pillow and cant stay on it, any help on how can i stay on the wedge without sliding?

Re: Wedge pillow
Is an adjustable bed, https://www.google.com/search?client=av ... table+beds , out of the question? They are great longterm for both sleep-disordered breathing and reflux.
The recovery is usually very painful. Best wishes for healing.

Re: Wedge pillow
I don't think they come with free steak knives, or at least ours didn't. We've had one for over 14 years and the only problem we have had was one of the lift motors. It turned out to be a very simple job to change it out.

Out of steak knives, but now they are giving away toasters and colored drinking glasses. Remember those?

Re: Wedge pillow
Due to the pandemic, we ran out of steak knives in late May. We substituted tomato knives, and they were all gone by early August. But, we can offer you a very nice mezzaluna.
Re: Wedge pillow
don't think that was in my lexicon. grew up in indiana, so a LOT of things aren't in my lexicon!
