Possible to have nocturia/frequent peeing during night even with successful CPAP treatment
Possible to have nocturia/frequent peeing during night even with successful CPAP treatment
I am curious if it is possible to be successful on CPAP treatment but still have nocturia/frequent peeing during the night. I noticed frequent peeing at night 2 years ago which is what got me to do a sleep test and was diagnosed with severe OSA. Been using CPAP for about a year and even though my Resmed 10 says I am having fewer events and not a lot of mask leak, I am still peeing frequently at night (between 2 to 3 times a night with the second and times after that not being a lot of pee). So even though it appears that my treatment is somewhat successful, the one item that affects my quality of sleep (at least that I can tell) is not solved, so very frustrating.
Re: Possible to have nocturia/frequent peeing during night even with successful CPAP treatment
What is "somewhat successful"????
How old are you?
Male or female?
Do you pee frequently during the day?
Any other health issues (like diabetes)?
How many hours each night do you use the machine?
Take any medications? If so, what?
There are lots of reasons for nocturia and sleep apnea is but one of many reasons. CPAP therapy (if effective) fixes only the sleep apnea reason. Doesn't do a darn thing for any of the other reasons.

Talk to your doctor... and as Pugsy said, more info needed like male/female, age, and a lot of other things we can't cover here - only your doctor can address (and don't set him/her up by asking if it's all about Cpap because it may well not be).

There are many things that can cause frequent nocturia besides Apnea. Time to talk to your doctor.

If your doctor has prescribed a "water pill", without instructions on when to take it--
it is preferable to take it in the morning--not the evening, before bed.
Your choice, of course.

Good point about diuretic medicine.
Some substances may have diuretic action, such as caffeine. So after-dinner coffee is not wise.

Or cola, or mountain dew, dr pepper, or sunkist orange soda.
Even dark chocolate has some, and a little works nicely for me.

If you are male and the second time and later are not a lot of pee, it could possibly be an enlarged prostate. Just a thought. Cannot be diagnosed in a forum! So as others said here before me, def see your doc!

The following is deviating from the topic so delete if inappropriate.
Speaking of prostate exams, my doctor fired me many years ago after she completed a prostate exam on me. I asked her why she would not see me any more as a patient. She then told me she did not appreciate me running my hands through her hair during the exam.
