Want to make a DC power cord for Airsense 10
Want to make a DC power cord for Airsense 10
I want to power my cpap from 55 AH batteries. I need a cord to plug into my cpap and connect to my scooter battery during power outages. Dorian is getting closer. I already have what I need to recharge my phone and Kindle from the scooter.
What I can't find is the barrel connector to plug into the cpap. What is the correct size and where to get it would be nice. If i measured it right, the plug for the AC connection is 14mm long and 6mm diameter.

Would maybe help to know which brand and model of cpap machine you are using.

Re: Want to make a DC power cord
While putting your machine type in your signature is beneficial. The machine type should also be included in the topic. This way the topic is searchable and still has value long after you change machines.
Here's a topic on making an ResMed AirSense 10 DC convert that should be helpful for your to create your own. (I was able to search for the topic because the brand was in the topic nd not just the signature
)

Of particular importance:

Of particular importance:
- The ResMed Output connector is not a simple barrel connector.
- It has 3 outputs
- Middle pin +3.3 vDC
- Inner cylinder +24 vDC
- Outer cylinder negative ground.

Re: Want to make a DC power cord
I had seen that before but I hadn't read it too closely as it was about using cpap in a motor home/camper. I've seen pages elsewhere saying a straight connection from battery to cpap works, but there wasn't as much detail. When I got this cpap the VA told me they couldn't get me a battery to cpap hookup but that there was info online on how to do it.

A straight connection will not work with the Resmed unless you have a 24 volt battery.Gresyth wrote: ↑Tue Sep 03, 2019 3:40 pmI had seen that before but I hadn't read it too closely as it was about using cpap in a motor home/camper. Resmeds take 24v, and a power good sense on the middle pin.Gresyth wrote: ↑Tue Sep 03, 2019 3:40 pmI had seen that before but I hadn't read it too closely as it was about using cpap in a motor home/camper. The power connector is the same thing as used in many laptops, just like what's on my thinkpad, or many Dell's for instance... but the voltages are different so you can't just use a laptop power supply.
The article you didn't read closely should have the info you want, because it doesn't matter if that 12v battery is in a motor home, camper, golf cart, or mobility scooter.

Plus, reportedly, the Resmed adapter is very efficient.... It's certainly packed with circuitry (see pic in thread referenced above)Jas_williams wrote: ↑Wed Sep 04, 2019 12:04 amI spent the $85 dollars and bought the Resmed DC adapter well the UK equivalent I did not want to blow up my expensive ASV machine

I picked up my ResMed DC to DC converter on FaceBook MarketPlace, $50 CDN ($37US). Look for them on the online buy-sell sites.

Sometimes "close" is just not close enough, and OEM is the only way to go.
Whether you call it third party, generic, or "el cheapo", sometimes it works--
But sometimes it just isn't worth the risk.
My brother has an expression, "maggot bites"; injuries sustained when a "maggot"
attempts a task beyond his ability or materials available.

Re: Want to make a DC power cord for Airsense 10
If anyone is shopping today The Cpap shop has a code ResMed20 that drops the price to high $67 and Cpap.com seems better as you get all the discounts without a code, spend $100 for free shipping.
I have a Remstar back up and it seems input is AC to that with 100-240v, 50/60Hz 1.0A max? the Airsense is DC24v and 3.5A so I am pretty confused on which one will be better to use and exactly what I will need also weighing the Marine Battery vs Power Station. Any thoughts? Amazon does not give good technical info and Ebay is worse..I can't wait to skip past this year and then roll back to the 70s next year. The faceless sales platforms and greed for an extra buck makes me miss the days when sales people were always happy to educate someone.
Thanks in advance. I have already got good info to know a little of what to look for by stumbling across this page the other week. The trip is being planned to start in March, glad I am starting research early.

"marine battery" is *bad*
"Deep cycle" battery is good.
avoid "marine" unless you're putting it on a *boat*.

Re: Want to make a DC power cord for Airsense 10
The reason the Marine battery is bad, is the extra unneeded cost in building that takes into account of the boat vibration factor. Jim
The best bang for the buck are 6 volt golf cart batteries, mounted in series to get the needed voltage.
