Sorgen Medical - Remanufactured Resmed S9?

Post by BanjoPaterson » Sun Feb 14, 2021 6:12 pm

Hi - I live in Canberra and found a Brisbane (pronounced "Briz-bun", not "Briz-bane", here in Oz) company called Sorgen Medical. Looking at the "About Us" lots of photos with little information. Selling an APAP that is remarkably similar to a Resmed S9 for AUD 829.

See https://sorgenmedical.com/cpap-auto-machine/

I presume this company and product is so new, there's not a lot of information about them; but are there any better internet sleuths that have better information? Even better, is there anyone on this forum from Brissie who can visit/verify this mob? Given the outrageous prices we pay for xPAPs here in Oz, this almost seems to be too good to be true.

Looks like it is made in China??? More correctly the business address is in Hong Kong.

Looking at the 'About Us' picture of 10 people reminds me of a group of zombies trying out for a very low budget movie. Lots of makeup. Is that supposed to be the employees (About Us)?

I'm guessing it's meant to be employees. Something doesn't appear correct. I'll be visiting my parents in Brisbane in a few months' time -- I'll pay their HQ a visit.

Trust your "spidey sense".
We don't understand how our "gut feelings" work, but they can save your hind end.

UPDATE

The address for Sorgen Medical was a shopping plaza in Brisbane, namely Westfield Chermside. Since I was in Brisbane visiting my parents, I thought I'd take an afternoon to view their stock and look at the "DS-6", which is described here https://sorgenmedical.com/cpap-auto-machine/. I like the look of the Dream Sleep 6 as it reminds me of my ResMed S9, and the price is a lot better. But a few red flags appeared, as you can read in my original post.

So armed with the address below, I headed off to the mall...

Unfortunately, I think they are correct. Here's what I found:

They have no shop front in the mall itself, but rather rent a desk at an office sharing company called Watso. Here's the Watso front at the Westfield:

Next, they only operate the desk two days a week between 1000-1600. So, what are my conclusions?

Well, there must be a product since they offer payment services that will refund you if it's a scam -- so I don't believe it's a scam per se. The buyer will receive a product, and it will look like the one in the picture. But I suspect this product is a manufacturing knock-off of a ResMed S9, only changed enough to avoid look-and-feel copyright infringement. Since they cannot sell this product without regulatory approval (at least, legally), they must've had at least one correctly working product to show the regulatory authorities. Yet by not having a bricks-and-mortar presence and the "almost but not quite deceptive" nature of their "shop front", I am not confident about the quality control of subsequent products someone might buy.

In essence, I would not recommend this to anyone. So that's my update... not quite a "it fell off a lorry [truck]" purchase, but feels pretty close.

Pity. I had my hopes up. On the plus side, though, got good exercise walking around every square inch of the mall until I decided to ask the information desk.
