SD card for Resmed Airsense 10

Post by rjg202 » Wed Mar 10, 2021 3:40 pm

I got my Airsense 10 yesterday and I noticed there is no SD card in it, the provided says they get everything over cellular. It says it is T-Mobile 4G and only has 1 bar, but it did upload to myair today.

So, does the SD card capture more information?

Can I add a blank SD card or will that mess the machine up? Was wondering if there is an app that can read more information maybe from the card than the MyAir app shows.

Thanks

Any SD Card will work...buy a low volume card. With the SD Card you can download your data to Oscar.

Will the provider know I added a card? I have several SD cards I can add, I do have the Oscar app as I was trying to get data from my old S9, but it seemed to have stopped logging at some point,

I don't *think* they know if an SD card is inserted.

It's none of their business anyway. With OSCAR and an SD Card you get way more information than MyAir.

It's your machine...your therapy...your health. Take control yourself. You are the providers customer. Who cares what they know.

I showed my data to my sleep doc--and he totally geeked out!
It is possible he is a better doctor to all his cpap patients now.

Thanks, I added a 16 gig SD card I had laying around to the machine and downloaded the info to OSCAR today. Wow, what a wealth of information, I just have to read up to understand the charts and numbers. From what I can tell it looks good. This was day 2 with Airsense 10 Auto, Day 1 there was no SD card so I have not detailed logging for that. Only a summary.

Thanks for the advice and I did try searching before asking. I am not new to CPAP 10 years only new to the capabilities of upgrading from S9 escape to Airsense 10 Auto.

Sorry to bring up an old topic...but I didn't want to start another thread about missing SD Cards in new ResMed Devices.

A friend of mine has a new ResMed AirSense 10 that they started using a month ago - they mentioned that they took the machine into their pulmonologist and the doctors office asked where the SD card was.

I was about to tell him to just buy another SD card and that way he could use OSCAR to see more in-depth details of his CPAP treatment details.

As I was looking up requirements for the SD card, I came across a few threads from the past couple of years whereas folks mentioned that their DME had provided them with CPAP's and no SD card (this includes large DME's like Lincare). Some believe that DME's are removing the SD card so that users can't see their detailed data since they (DME) are paying for AirView or ResScan so they want the customers/patients to keep coming back to the DME for detailed data about their usage (Conspiracy alert  ).

According to ResMed's Clincian Guide - https://www.respshop.com/manuals/ResMed ... %20her.pdf (Page 28)
Every AirSense 10 device comes with an SD card already inserted and ready to be used.
I told my friend to call his DME tomorrow and ask for his SD card - he (or his insurer) paid for a complete ResMed device - which should include the SD card. I'm curious what type of run-around they give him about the missing SD card.

Anyway, after reading that this seems to be an ongoing thing with DME's...has anyone gotten a definitive word from their DME about why they are not providing the SD card?

From what I have heard the general excuse is "you don't need it because you have the MyAir thing and we can check everything online"...and they quietly never the mention the "and we can make an extra 10 bucks or so selling it back to you or someone else".
Or they flat out lie and say the machine didn't come with one ....but we will sell you this one.

That's been what I have seen forum members say that they have been told...."you don't need it now with MyAir available"

Thanks for the response on what the general consensus has been on this issue.

I'm going to inform my buddy and tell him to push back on the DME until he gets his SD card or else he's going to call his insurance company and/or ResMed to file some sort of case/complaint with them...and the DME. Then again, maybe I'll reach out to ResMed tomorrow first, and get their take on it.

My DME charged me $32 CAD for my SD card.

LOL, I didn't know any better, and I guess I only paid 85% because insurance paid.

But as unethical as this practice is, it's not illegal.

Ended up costing my DME a lot more than $32, I haven't bought a thing from them since my initial machine purchase.

I think I may have posted this a while back when I got my last machine. I have dealt with my DME for 10 years. I came in to get my new machine and we noticed a crack in the machine's cover. While I was there she opened a new box and set up a new machine for me....there was no SD Card. I told her that I needed one (even though I had one from my S9) and she gave me one.

They are not expensive to purchase... https://www.amazon.com/SanDisk-16GB-Mem ... 190&sr=8-8

So...

I called ResMed directly to ask the question about SD cards missing from newly issued ResMed AirSense 10 devices.

They told me that they have NOT been including SD cards in their new machines for 2+ years...

There you go - there is the official answer from ResMed as to the missing cards - I guess the DME's are not hoarding them for their own benefit.

ResMed went on to further say, that most DME's and doctors' offices get the data over the built-in cellular network connection so an SD card is not needed. An SD card can still be purchased by those who don't have a cellular connection.

When I asked about SD card requirements - I was told that any card above 2GB should work just fine in an AirSense 10 and above model. SDHC is the standard card above 4GB.

So, hopefully, someone will find this information useful and can put to rest the reason for the missing SD cards in ResMed machines...

The sleep clinic we use pulls the data from the SD card every six months. I know the insurance does not require it to be checked that often, but allows our general practitioner and my cardiologist to see how we are doing in respect to using the machines, so that is one less question they have to ask when we see them twice a year.
