Best battery and inverter to use w/ cpap when dry camping

Post by Longbeard1 » Fri Jul 09, 2021 3:11 pm

It is always a challenge for us to dry camp and run the cpap and maintain a charge on our battery. She has a Resmed Airsense 10 machine with a 750W Everstart Inverter and a series 27 RV/Marine 675CCA battery. We bring the battery and inverter next to the bed so there is no long cords. With battery at full charge 13.1V it will run down to 11.7V after the first night and the alarm will go off during the next night of use. Why can't we get more than two nights out of a fully charged battery? The humidifier is off, has very little air leaks and is set at about 12. Would we be better off with a 100W inverter and AGM 6V battery? Or maybe two 6V batteries? We charge them during the day with our Honda 2000 generator but can't keep up. Help

Inverters are very inefficient, get the proper 12v cable for the CPAP and you'll likely double your runtime.

Also, you've got the wrong battery, you want a deep cycle battery, not a starting battery (as evidenced by the 'cca' rating. Avoid anything "marine" because those are heavier because they're built to handle the pounding on boats.

Couldn't agree more.

I would recommend a *Deep Cycle* battery - choose what ever size you feel comfy carrying. I have a 100AH iirc it weighs about 62#.

Also, turn the heated humidifier to zero.
You can still use passover humidity, but heating water sucks electricity--big time.

Thank you for the responses. What do you mean when you recommend a proper 12V CPAP cable? Right now the inverter cables(about) a foot long are attached to the battery. Then the CPAP is plugged into the inverter.

You want Resmed part # 37297. Check Cpap.com, amazon, or any other provider:

You can (and should) power the cpap directly from the battery, WITHOUT an inverter.

Great info. Thanks. Does anyone have a preference for 6V versus 12V deep cycle batteries? If I buy a 6V battery can I plug it into the 90W converter or do I need something else?

You'd need two, in series, to get 12 volts. volts matter.
