OT: no user avatars

Post by zonker » Sun Jul 25, 2021 11:46 am

seems like the forum software is screwing with me. i don't see ANY user avatars currently.

using the same browser as yesterday(which showed bountiful avatars) and same machine. happens no matter which link i use.

anyone else not seeing user avatars?
people say i'm self absorbed.
but that's enough about them.

The avatar's not showing up apear to be externally hosted on rackspacecloud.com, perhaps other sites.

I can't see any of the the following avatars and they are all on rackspacecloud.

LSAT's Avatar: Image
Julie's Avatar: Image

You can still open the Avatar's in a new browser (or window), therefore the problem likely lies with rackspacecloud, perhaps they've changed their hot-linking policy.

The solution may be when impacted users uploaded their avatars. Possibly when the forums were hosted on a different site, as the problem seems to be with older accounts and having an avatar that hasn't been changed in a while.

I think the solution will require impacted users re-upload their avatars.

I can see everyone's avatar who posted in this thread....including zonker's.

I don't do forum software stuff....above my pay grade...wait, I don't get paid anyway.
Seems like in the dim recesses of my memory I do recall the avatars going AWOL in the past. Don't remember the fix or if it was something we just had to wait out.

Do you have some kind of ad blocker in your browser, or other protection that might block access to the site hosting the avatars?

I see a lot of posts without avatars, but I don't think these people have uploaded avatars to their profiles. Maybe you are just looking at the posts made by these people.

I use Bitdefender and it is blocking rackspacecloud.com with the following message:

msedge.exe attempted to establish a connection relying on an unmatching security certificate to c1501942.cdn.cloudfiles.rackspacecloud.com. We blocked the connection to keep your data safe since the used certificate was issued for a different web address than the targeted one.

i am SO glad that you chose "computers" as your field of advanced study and even more glad that you come here to explain these things.

i keep forgetting that the world wide web is made up of more than i see in front of me.

yes, but i've changed nothing there between yesterday and today.

perhaps i'll go the avatar host site and find out if i can see them there.
