Mask leaving bad imbedded marks!

Post by alww » Wed Aug 04, 2021 1:10 pm

Advise please! My full face mask and sleeping on my sides is leaving major lines in my face. If I sleep on my back, I have lots of obstructive, so the side is the best position. I know with age(I’m 63) comes wrinkles and skin issues, but this is obvious marks from the mask, that do not go away. Side sleeping isn’t helping either for what that does to ones face, but what else can I do? I have tried a nose mask and will try that again. But not sleeping on side is not an option because of the major obstructive apnea’s I have on my back.
I know I can’t change aging skin, but need help on what the full mask is doing! Any advise is greatly appreciated.

Strap pads...either make them or buy them.
They help reduce/diffuse the pressure points and thus reduce lines in the sking.

https://www.padacheek.com/

They can be found for various full face masks, nasal cushion masks, nasal pillow masks.

For lines created by the cushion itself...mask liner to help diffuse the pressure points.

I have the strap marks too, but I was talking more about the lines being made by the mask pushing on my face. I have very noticeable marks going all kinds of ways on the sides of my face. It’s like when you lay on your sheets or something and they leave an impression. Except these marks aren’t going away.

padacheek can help with that, too.
people say i'm self absorbed.
but that's enough about them.

That's why I added the part about the mask liners. Did you see that addition? I added it after my initial reply.

I know exactly what you mean though. Some of us just have skin that "marks" easily. I have had a "scar" on my cheek from a wrinkle in the pillow case. The darn thing might last all day too. We are just unlucky.

This is why I finally went with a mask that doesn't have a cushion and doesn't have any sort of headgear.
The Bleep...see link in my signature line.

I still get a bit of a "bag" or puffiness under my right eye from fluid pooling a bit because I sleep on right side down...but it is nothing like what I used to get when I used straps or headgear.

You might look at the Bleep....it's not really a nasal pillow mask but sort of looks and fits like one.
It doesn't have a traditional cushion either...meaning the triangle thing over the end of the nose.

I don't normally jump right in and suggest "change your mask" when I see questions like yours. I try to give answers given what we are working with because I figure maybe they don't want to change masks....but if you want the lines gone and your skin is like mine and a wrinkle in the pillow case will give you a "scar".....at least consider a mask that doesn't really touch the skin anywhere...and no headgear to get those dents.

I did go back and read it. Thanks. I thought I recalled that you used the Bleep. I’ll check into it since I’m not willing to give in to the marks on my face.

And a slow 'wipe' with an ice cube can lessen marks fast in the a.m.

Back when bedspreads were made of chenille,
You had to put a pad on under the baby,
or he would wake with a floral pattern on large areas of skin.
Then you would look like a very bad mother . . .
