Sleep apnea and the IRS

Post by linda b » Thu Jan 11, 2007 9:09 am

It is getting to be that time of year again and I have another income tax question which I hope some of you can help me with.

Last summer we bought two of the small Honda generators to use to run my APAP machine and my oxygen concentrator when we go camping in campgrounds that do not have electrical hookups, which we do several times a year. I can truthfully say they are only used for this purpose. Do you suppose we could include their cost as a medical deduction on the itemized Schedule A "medical expenses" section?

I wouldn't think so, as the government doesn't make you go to places that don't provide the things you require. If that was the case, I want them to pay for my dinners and wine when I travel, I require 1 and 1/4 inch thick medium rare Steaks, so my Insulin will react correctly (Lean).

If we want to do things in life that cause us hardships, we shouldn't think Big Brother should cut us a break. Now if you wrote Wild Life books and had to go to remote areas for research, it might one generator might get allowed, as a business expense. Maybe you could deduct the Hummer 2, and trailer too. I'll bet your campground neighbors love you with all that noise and fumes. Makes you really want to go to the great outdoors for some fresh air and peace and qiuet. WHy not just pack a few batteries & a solar panel. I for the cpap and 1w/inverter for the O2 gizmo. How about a 250 cu ft O2 bottle like in an ambulance.

Whats that ? QUIET ! ZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzZZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzz

power ever go off at your house? heck yeah, put it down, I'd list it right along with oxygen supplies as emergency power. I put down everything on medical you are only going to get 2% of your AGI anyway.

If they audit you, all they can do is deny the amount claimed.

I have sciatica from a bad L4, doctor prescribed hydrotherapy (actually wrote it on his script pad). I went and bought a HotSpring Spa, wrote the whole thing off. And I've been audited twice.
