Should I buy a used Resmed AirCurve 10 ASV for $200?
Should I buy a used Resmed AirCurve 10 ASV for $200?
I have a Fisher & Paykel Icon+ Auto CPAP machine that I bought used for $100 about a month ago. However, I just realized that it's not supported by OSCAR. It also doesn't feel as good as the machine I tried at my sleep study did. The air feels more restricted. I got diagnosed with mild sleep apnea (8 AHIs on my side, 12 on my back). I'm a newb to the world of CPAPs and OSCAR.
The guy I bought the F&P from is selling a Resmed AirCurve 10 ASV. I could trade in my F&P and $100 to get the AirCurve 10. Should I do it? What should I look for when testing the device? He says the machine is in excellent shape and has low hours.

Re: Should I buy a used Resmed AirCurve 10 ASV for $200?
I'm not an expert in your question (but they'll be along shortly)...
Some questions that I have initially though, as I read your comments are:
- Does the F&P have some sort of EPR setting that the ResMed has?
When I initially started using my ResMed I felt that I could not exhale (and thus had trouble with a full breath) and felt restricted.
Once I turned on the EPR...breathing was so much better and I've enjoyed my ResMed for years!
- The seller indicated "low hours" to you. That's a subjective term (such as I have a low mileage Corvette here - only 150k miles!)
Do you know the actual hours on the machine? If not, ask and post....that way, others can better evaluate a great price based upon the hours.
Good Luck!

is this person near by? take a picture of the screen display where it shows run hours. post that here and the experts can tell you if they are truly low run hours.vilnius wrote: ↑Tue Sep 21, 2021 3:01 pmI have a Fisher & Paykel Icon+ Auto CPAP machine that I bought used for $100 about a month ago. more than anything else, you're going to need a machine supported by oscar.
if this works out, this will be a hell of a deal for you all the way 'round!

Yes, get the run hours.
"Low" is very subjective.

An ASV can be challenging to sleep with until you get used to it, (unless you drop right off to sleep) but that said, that's an absolutely KILLER deal (3 grand, or more, new), unless it's got a ton of hours on it.vilnius wrote: ↑Tue Sep 21, 2021 3:01 pmI have a Fisher & Paykel Icon+ Auto CPAP machine that I bought used for $100 about a month ago. Thanks everybody for the responses. She's here.

5174 run hrs. That's about 2 years of daily use.

Re: Should I buy a used Resmed AirCurve 10 ASV for $200?
Congrats...
Sound like a well-spent $200 for a $3k machine.
Figuring the hours (2 years of use), you got a great deal IMO.
Most here don't seem to care much for machines over 2-3k hours but you were in a unique spot, with a unique (albeit very expensive) situation.
Don't forget to turn on EPR!
You do know how to get into the "Clinician Menu" ??? Hold down that big round button and the Home button together for about 5 seconds to access the Clinician Menu (I'm assuming it's the same for all ResMed 10 machines)

To get a Clinician Guide e-mailed to you:
- Send an e-mail to: apneaboard@gmail.com
- in the Subject line, type: "Setup Manual" (without the quotes)
- in the body of the e-mail, just type: ResMed AirCurve 10 ASV
The above is per: https://www.apneaboard.com/adjust-cpap- ... nual#THREE

Re: Should I buy a used Resmed AirCurve 10 ASV for $200?
Well I can't confirm, as I don't have one, nor a Clinician guide to check...but according to this datasheet from Resmed ----> https://resmedwebinars.com/assets/uploa ... arison.pdf
The Resmed aircurve 10 ASV does have "Easy-Breathe waveform with EPR" ??
Maybe it's built into the machine somehow but I digress...

Thanks! Yep, palerider is correct, this one doesn't have an EPRJLROhio wrote: ↑Tue Sep 21, 2021 9:32 pmCongrats...

Re: Should I buy a used Resmed AirCurve 10 ASV for $200?
Question: is ASV ok for me? I don't have a prescription and I didn't get a titration done. I did get the sleep study but never went back (cause it's expensive and my insurance recently expired and I am between jobs).
Re: Should I buy a used Resmed AirCurve 10 ASV for $200?
PS on the ASV works like EPR meaning it will drop the pressure on exhale but there is no EPR as a separate setting choice on any of the bilevel machines like there is on the AirSense models.
The ASV machine is likely more machine than you need but it can be tamed a bit to make it a bit easier to adjust to.
I used an ASV for over 2 years just because I liked it .....and I have never had a problem with central apneas.
So....we can help you sort out the settings.
While ASV is often thought of as for only central apneas it is an incorrect thought. It can be used very effectively for just Obstructive apnea as well. I did it. Not all that difficult.
If I could find another ASV in my area for 200 bucks I would snatch it up in a heartbeat...even with 5 K hours on it.

Re: Should I buy a used Resmed AirCurve 10 ASV for $200?
Well, I DO have one, and I DO have the manual, I also have a AC10 VAuto sitting next to the bed, and neither it, nor the ASV, nor ANY Resmed bilevel device has "EPR", no matter what that comparison put after "Easy-Breathe waveform" because they are already *bilevel* devices.JLROhio wrote: ↑Tue Sep 21, 2021 10:15 pmWell I can't confirm, as I don't have one, nor a Clinician guide to check...but according to this datasheet from Resmed ----> https://resmedwebinars.com/assets/uploa ... arison.pdf

EPR is basically a limited bilevel, up to 3cm PS, whereas a true bilevel can go much further.
Having EPR on a bilevel machine would just be... useless.
Sending someone on a wild goose chase, trying to turn on a non-existent 'feature' isn't something that should just be ignored.
PS, "EPR" is not anywhere in the ASV, or VAuto clinical manuals.

Re: Should I buy a used Resmed AirCurve 10 ASV for $200?
Pugsy knows this, I'm just clarifying for the OP.
PS on the ASV works 'like' EPR, only exactly opposite.
EPR is a *drop* from base set pressure, PS is an *increase* from the base pressure.
