Resmed Airsense 10 lifespan?
Resmed Airsense 10 lifespan?
I reached 5 years on my Resmed Airsense 10 device. I’m eligible for a new machine on insurance, if I get a new sleep study, but I want to hold off for awhile, maybe a year or so, due to the CPAP machine shortage. Does anyone know how long, realistically, this machine should last?

How many hrs do you use it at night?
Re: Resmed Airsense 10 lifespan?
I average about 7.5 hours a night. I just checked my machines usage. 15788 total hours.

Re: Resmed Airsense 10 lifespan?
Well, you certainly have more time left on the machine but how much..??
Can you afford to get a new machine on your own - don't need a script for e.g. eBay, etc. Then, if you use Oscar, post here for interpretation and advice, you can do whatever you want, whenever, and skip the whole insurance game... as many here do now. People also get new machines (or good 2nd hand ones from known sources such as Secondwindcpap.com) and keep back-ups for unexpected problems. I'm using a machine from 2006 that I almost forgot I had when my 'good' one conked out, and it's got lots of time left on it, which is great because I have no insce. and no $ to spend on a new one right now.

Re: Resmed Airsense 10 lifespan?
Well, I guess I could always get a used one on eBay, or somewhere, if it dies on me before I can get a replacement. I like the Resmed, but new stock is very low to non-existent now. My insurance for this year has no sleep doctors on the plan that are nearby. My doctor dropped off as a provider, right after I chose my new plan on the marketplace

Re: Resmed Airsense 10 lifespan?
Your current machine might last another 5 years or it might crap out next week, next month or next year.
It's like any other electronic piece of equipment....could last for 20 years or might up and die tomorrow.
Unfortunately we just don't have any way to see into the future.
How come you have to have another sleep study? Isn't the first one good enough?
Did your insurance tell you that or did the DME tell you that?
If it was the DME....call up your insurance and ask them what all they need or want to cover a new machine for you.
Get your information directly from your insurance company....never ever rely on what a DME says without verifying.
EBay doesn't allow the sale of cpap machines because there is that RX requirement thing.
I see you may have a new insurance plan???? If you still have the records from your original sleep study it might be enough to get you a new machine without a new sleep study.
If you can get a RX from someone you can buy new online and/or sometimes we have some forum members selling very gently used or even new machines and no RX is required.
Contact forum member LSAT and ask if he is going to be getting anything soon. He's a great guy. I have bought 3 machines from him for myself and then 2 others that went out of the country to others.

Re: Resmed Airsense 10 lifespan?
Thanks Pugsly. My doctor, last year, told me I need a new sleep study to get a new machine for the following year (which is now). So, I assume he wouldn’t write me a new prescription without one. Although I’ve seen that you can buy prescriptions online for about $100. Once I get this sorted out, at least I can get in line for a new machine, even if I have to wait months to get one.

I don't care what your doctor said.....call up your insurance just to make sure.
I bet your doctor had no idea what your insurance required....he was the one wanting a new sleep study.

also, bear in mind that ANY doctor can write a prescription. your dentist can write one. all it takes is finding a doctor willing to write one.

Re: Resmed Airsense 10 lifespan?
I have an Airsense 10 I got in early 2014. It currently has 24642 hours and runs like it did on day one. I do have a backup on the way just in case it decides to die. I have complete confidence in any Resmed CPAP machine!
Also, my sleep doctor gave me my prescription that is good forever.

Re: Resmed Airsense 10 lifespan?
Part of my Airsense 10, bought in 2020 died within the 2 year warranty period.
Until it was fixed, I switched back to my 9 year old (maybe 8 year old?) S9 that had always worked perfectly, and still did while it was subbing for the Airsense 10.
It's always good to have a backup machine.

And now here is my secret, a very simple secret; it is only with the heart that one can see rightly, what is essential is invisible to the eye.

Re: Resmed Airsense 10 lifespan?
That’s what I was thinking. Even with 15788 hours, I’d feel better with a new one, and this as a backup. I don’t want to go even one night without a cpap. I think I’ll probably get another Resmed Airsense 10, since I’ve been seeing mixed reviews of the 11.

Re: Resmed Airsense 10 lifespan?
I have always had a back up machine of some sort just in case I ever needed it.
It's a good way to never need a new machine on a Friday night of a long holiday weekend.

ResMed typically has adopted a policy of where they continue producing various products associated with a specific model for at least 5 years after a model line has been discontinued. So the fear of having a machine you can't buy supporting equipment (heated hose, water chamber, etc) for is minimal. And last I heard ResMed was still producing the AirSense 10 models even while producing the AirSense 11 models. That was a decision made due to the shortage. I haven't heard yet that they have totally discontinued the AirSense 10 model line. I fully expect the AirSense/AirCurve 10 model accessories specific to that model to be available for a long time and if and when that model line is discontinued I might just stock up on those model specific accessories.
Right now I have another AirCurve 10 VAuto sitting in my closet.....just in case.
And I have 2 water chambers in my possession along with one heated hose and numerous non heated hoses.
Now sometime in the future I might get the AirCurve 11 VAuto....whenever it becomes available and has been out there in use long enough to be able to find a low hour gently used one at a decent price. I am in no hurry.
Plus if I just HAD to....I can get by with the AutoSet models.

Re: Resmed Airsense 10 lifespan?
I think it’s worth waiting at least a couple of years of new model, that has material changes, before getting that one, over a highly reviewed older model. I know the Airsense 11 has the same blower/motor that’s in the mini cpap. That doesn’t sit well with me, thinking it might die out sooner. I have a feeling that Resmed will be making Airsense 10 assessories for many years to come.
