RESMED 11 and time zone
RESMED 11 and time zone
Is it true that one cannot change the time zone on these machines?
Re: RESMED 11 and time zone
No...that is not true.
The time zone can be changed on the AirSense 11 model machines but the machine stored data has to be erased first before it will allow a time zone change.
So it can be done but comes with strings.

Re: RESMED 11 and time zone
On my AS10, when I wanted to change from DST to normal, I was warned I would loose all the data - which was fine with me since I had the data on the SD and in Oscar.
In what sense is the data loss on the AS11 different?

Re: RESMED 11 and time zone
The AirSense/AirCurve 10 models had a clock the user could set and the only time there was a problem resetting the clock to account for DST is when there was already some data recorded in the sleep session and it won't let you go backwards when there is data recorded.
Now the AirSense 11 models...they don't have a clock at all that people can set. The only thing available is a setting for the time zone of the user and if someone wants to change the time zone it simply can't be done without essentially doing a factory reset of the data....all data stored on the internal memory HAS to be erased prior to changing the time zone.
Not a big deal when using OSCAR to store data but if someone is still within the proving of compliance usage so that insurance will pay for the machine then it could be a real problem.

Re: RESMED 11 and time zone
Thanks, Pugsy. I understand the implication for insurance.
Do the AS11 change to DST and back automatically based on time the selected time zone?
Does that mean you also lose the pressure settings and those too are reset to default?

Re: RESMED 11 and time zone
I don't know for sure. I haven't seen the AS11 itself so I don't know if "erase patient data" will also reset all the settings to factory defaults.
Past machines had 2 separate functions but I don't know about the AS 11 models and haven't looked at the manual all that close to see if it shows those choices.
No...the machines don't/can't do automatic time zone changes to account for DST changes.
I don't know about other parts of the world but even the USA has areas that don't participate with the DST changes and these machines go all over the world and the machines simply can't do any changes automatically. Logistics nightmare.

Re: RESMED 11 and time zone
Whoever planned that kind of time setting in AS11 must have been a mental prisoner of Covid-19-lockdown-thought, incapable or imagining people traveling out of their time zone... or else, they carried over some programing from a static hospital machine....

Re: RESMED 11 and time zone
Yeah but remember that most people probably don't care if the software reports don't show "correct" time. Heck, most people probably won't even be using the software and hours slept is hours slept no matter what the clock might say.
Like for me....I don't need to sync up anything to my cpap machine to look for anything. Don't need O2 meter...don't need FitBit with sleep, etc. Heck, I rarely download more often than once a month. What time is "says" I turned the machine on and off doesn't really matter to me.
But I agree with you....stupid, stupid, stupid design to eliminate the clock that the user can easily change and a big step backwards to go with the internal clock like Respironics has done in the past and for all I know the rest of the cpap manufacturers have gone with.

That's a big step backwards for Resmed.Pugsy wrote: ↑Thu Dec 01, 2022 8:47 amThe AirSense/AirCurve 10 models had a clock the user could set and the only time there was a problem resetting the clock to account for DST is when there was already some data recorded in the sleep session and it won't let you go backwards when there is data recorded.

And it looks like they learned a bad lesson from PR: PR machines have long had an internal clock set to GMT, although the DreamStations allowed you to "change time zones" on the LCD. But neither you nor the DME could set or adjust the clock, and over time "clock drift" can become a real problem, particularly if you are trying to sync the xPAP data with something else like FitBit data or oximeter data.
How bad can the clock drift get? Well my 6 year old DreamStation's internal clock is now off by +47:10 GMT and my husband's 8 year old System One Series 60's internal clock is off by -2:09:43 GMT.

Re: RESMED 11 and time zone
In the larger scheme of things, you don't use the machine as a clock anyway.
Setting the time zone
Before the patient is set up, ensure the correct time zone has been set. The time zone cannot be changed
once patient data has been stored on the device. The patient data will need to be erased before changing
the time zone.
The AirSense 11 device is set up with GMT (Greenwich Mean Time) time zone settings.
To change Time Zone:
1. From the Clinical Home screen, tap SETTINGS
2. Move down the menu to find CONFIGURATION options
3. Tap Time Zone
4. Select the relevant GMT setting and tap OK.

Re: RESMED 11 and time zone
Who is suggesting they want to use there CPAP as a clock?

And what happens if/when the signal is weak or nonexistent? There are still places with spotty cell coverage.palerider wrote: ↑Thu Dec 01, 2022 6:29 pmI *believe* that Resmed is pulling time from the cell towers.robysue1 wrote: ↑Thu Dec 01, 2022 11:34 amThat's a big step backwards for Resmed.Pugsy wrote: ↑Thu Dec 01, 2022 8:47 amThe AirSense/AirCurve 10 models had a clock the user could set and the only time there was a problem resetting the clock to account for DST is when there was already some data recorded in the sleep session and it won't let you go backwards when there is data recorded.

Re: RESMED 11 and time zone
I have had to explain, more than once, to a sleep doc looking at Encore data showing consistent bedtimes between 3:00 and 4:00 that clock drift is making my delayed sleep phase problem look a lot worse than it really is.
The usage data from my 45 day trip to Europe also looked really bizarre in terms of when the "nights" started and when they ended.

Maybe this mess will encourage doctors to just throw up their hands, and
check the "yes" box next to "compliant."
Just viewing the bright side . . .
Only insurance companies like being anal.
Nobody else cares.
