Dreamstation 2 preheat & SD card question
Dreamstation 2 preheat & SD card question
Does the Dreamstation 2 have a preheat function for the humidifier so you can warm the water before starting the machine? I usually turn on preheat about 10 minutes before using the machine so the air isn't so cold but I can't figure out how.
Also I'm switching the SD card from old machine (System One REMstar Auto A-Flex) to Dreamstation 2...do I just put the old card in new machine? I've saved all my data from old machine in Oscar. Does the new machine overwrite old data? Do I need to format it first? Should I just use a new card?

I know virtually nothing about that company's machines.
And, for obvious reasons, I'm happy that I don't need to know.

Re: Dreamstation 2 preheat & SD card question
As noted in Zonker's post, I can confirm there is no capability to preheat the water. If you should happen to use tap water perhaps use warm water from the faucet to fill the tank just before using it(?)
If I were to use the SD card that had prior data on it, I think it would be wise to format (FAT32) the card before using it in the new machine. As well you could buy a new card (32gb or less) and just set the old card aside if you ever needed the old data for some reason.

When I first started I would heat the water in my microwave. As time went on I didn't feel the need to.

Just do not try to heat the water with this method in the CPAP tub. The Microwave will not like the metal heating plate on the tubs bottom.

Even a tiny bit of metal can damage the magnetron tube.
Of course, if you have been wanting an excuse to upgrade to a newer oven . . .

This video below mirrors my experience when a wire tie from a bread wrapper snuck its way in with some food. The wire tie actually generated enough heat to split a Corelle plate in half at the point of contact.. Maybe the type of metal makes a difference(?)

Re: Dreamstation 2 preheat & SD card question
I moved my card from my DreamStation 1, to a temporary ResMed to a DreamStation 2. Occasionally the DS2 will have an issue not reading the card but that's about it.shimon wrote: ↑Fri Dec 30, 2022 5:19 pm

The first microwave oven I had was an Amana Radar Range and the inside of the oven was all stainless steel. Now, they say not to put any metal inside of the microwaves.chunkyfrog wrote: ↑Fri Dec 30, 2022 7:39 pmEven a tiny bit of metal can damage the magnetron tube.

Metal has always been potentially harmful and harmful to microwaves. But that doesn't mean they can't be made from metal. In fact microwaves are dependent on its sides reflecting back the microwaves to be absorbed by the food.Okie bipap wrote: ↑Sat Dec 31, 2022 9:47 amThe first microwave oven I had was an Amana Radar Range and the inside of the oven was all stainless steel. Thick, smooth metals are almost always OK to be but in a microwave because the waves don't penetrate deep into the metal and most of the waves bounce off (like the sides). Thin, crinkled, and sharp edged metals, like aluminum foil and services can overheat causing fires, spark and release electrons creating heated plasma.
It's easier to warn against placing metal in microwaves, instead of describing the conditions when metal can and cannot be used in a microwave.
BTW, putting distilled water in a microwave is actually very dangerous. Now, nobody here is heating distilled water beyond warm for CPAP use, but using a microwave to boil distilled water. The lack of impurities can cause water to heat beyond the boiling point, then when it's disturbed can cause it to vigorously boil over and explode out of it's container.
