SleepImage ring - Is it accurate?

I was diagnosed with severe OSA in 2014 (56 events per hour), via a little box strapped to my chest with a cannula attached (home test). I immediately got an APAP which reduced my ASI to ~3, and this fixed everything.

In 2017 I reduced my weight from 205 to 175 (I'm not fat anymore!). I'd like to think the weight was the real factor behind the OSA. I still wear the mask nightly, but do I really need to anymore? If I relax my throat and breath as if I were asleep, there is no obstruction. When I weighed 205 and tried to do this, there was plenty of obstruction.

So I asked for a test. This has turned out to be a SleepImage ring that I will wear for 2 nights, forwarding the findings to a company in Tampa, which was the recommendation from my primary care doctor.

I'm a little wary of the accuracy. Have any of you had any experience with such a device? Does it seem like if the test comes back negative that I can stop using the APAP? Or is that maybe just wishful thinking?

Can your doctor not get you a proper home (if not lab) sleep test? Gadgets are not known for being the best judges of apnea, let alone give enough useful data to indicate proper treatment.

And while losing wt is admirable, it's doubtful if it was enough to make 'the' difference at all.

For the purpose of diagnosing SDB, the US FDA-clearance for SleepImage states the following: “Clinical evaluation has confirmed that the SleepImage System auto-scoring algorithms calculating the SleepImage Apnea Hypopnea Index (sAHI) generate comparable output to human manual scoring of an Apnea Hypopnea Index (AHI) from Polysomnography (PSG) studies, using American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM) scoring guidelines for children and adult patients.”

So as an apnea screening tool it is likely comparable to other indirect screening methods like the watchPAT or the NighOwl device.

Dataq1 does not own any stock in SleepImage, but does have access to Google. SleepImage seems to be another iteration of the algorithmic approach to assessing sleep breathing disorders, much like WatchPat.

Dataq does wish that he owned the algorithm!

It seems you are already committed to the test. So, why not come back to this thread after you know the results?

BTW, if you had come here first, we could have given you a protocol to test whether you are still likely to have sleep apnea.
