DoorCountyDi mentioned It Stays! Body Adhesive as a product she uses for sealing her mask in place. It sounds like a promising idea. Has anyone els tried this out? Pros and cons? Does it damage the mask material

Is this product the same thing that I've seen used to hold up support hose? Comes in a roll-on type bottle? Where do you buy it?

I can see this for full face masks, but nasal mask users, why not just buy a comfort curve?

Why not? Because the Comfort (so-called) Curve leaks like crazy for some of us....at least one of us.

I'd never heard of body adhesive before, but it sounds interesting. For lots of things I can think of in addition to CPAP masks.

Where do you buy it?

A respiratory therapist friend also recommended Benzoin Tincture, available OTC in most drug stores. Does the same thing, works great holding the mask in place, washes off easily with water, etc. It's a liquid, comes in a small bottle, & I just apply a thin coat on my face with a Q-tip where the mask hits.

I used to do a lot of scuba diving in another life & an old divers' trick, 'specially for those of us with 'staches, was to just spread a thin coat of Vaseline on the bottom of the face mask to make a better seal against the facial hair to stop water leakage. Worked great.

I've never heard of Marine Sports Mask Seal either. Probably invented long after I quit diving. Can you get it in a dive shop? How does it work with a CPAP mask?

Update on the It Stays. I went into my medical supply place yesterday and the owner gave me a bottle for free -- he is interested in all the experiments and adaptations I tell him about from reading this forum. I think it might be basically the same as the Benzoin Tincture that rpalmer mentions. It has an alcohal smell and comes in a roll on bottle. (And regarding rpalmer's comment that there must be lots of uses for this stuff, the medical supply guy said, "You wouldn't believe what people tell me they what to attach where!") So I tried the It Stays last night. It was not as helpful as I hoped, but I'm going to keep experimenting with it. I put it on and found that for back sleeping, it actually did put an end to the little leaks that are so annoying with my comfortcurve. However, when I rolled on my side it did little for those leaks. I took the mask off for awhile and then when I put it back on, the stuff both on the mask and on my face had gotten alot tackier and then it actually did seem to help with side sleeping --not perfect but improved. I do want to say, however, that I was tired enough by that time that it might not have been so much better but I just didn't notice... Tonight I'm going to put it on the mask and my face and then wait for awhile before putting it on to try to get that tackiness going. I'm also going to order the diver mask seal -- it is only a few dollars if you google it and comes in a twist tube that looks like chapstick. I thought about trying vaseline -- I also used to be a diver --but worried that I might break out if I slept with vaseline on my face all night every night. I'll post results of on-going experiments in case anyone is interested. I want to note that I have a fairly low pressure -- 8 -- so I know that my leak problems are not as pronounced as folks with higher pressures.

Night two with ItStays. I put it directly on my skin and then waited for a few minutes for it to get tacky. It seemed to work really well, better than the first night, including for side sleeping. It is hard to tell if that is true, though, because I think I am turning the corner on getting used to this thing and I may be sleeping through all sorts of hisses and leaks.

Thanks for the update. I'll love it if I can get to the point of sleeping so soundly I don't even know if I'm making lots of noises in the night. Of course, not sure how much my wife will love it.

Funny how many different things we try to make CPAP work better & to tolerate it better. Trying to combat my chronic congestion problem, I even tried Breathe Right Nasal Strips last week. Believe it or not, they actually did help relieve the congestion, but the adhesive seemed to really irritate my skin, so maybe I can only use 'em every other night or so. I'll just have to experiment.

The Benzoin Tincture works pretty well as a mask adhesive, but it's kind of a yellowish liquid & I'm a little afraid it may gunk up the mask flange over time, so I'll be curious to see what the It-Stays is like I'll let you know after I try it.

I use a Respironics SoloLX CPAP set at 11cm H2O with an HC 150 heated humidifier and ResMed Mirage full face mask. I also feed oxygen from an Invacare Platinum 5 concentrator set at 2lpm into the CPAP outlet hose (in-line before the humidifier).

I guess my pressure setting -- 11 -- is somewhat mid-range. A little higher than your 8 setting, but certainly not as high as some of the settings I'm reading about from some of our brethren (& sistern?!) on this forum. Does your CPAP have a "ramp-up" feature so your pressure increases gradually when you 1st turn it on? Do you use it? I did at 1st, but don't use it anymore.

I use a REMstar Pro 2 C-Flex CPAP with a heated humidifier. It does have a ramp up feature. It was nice when I was getting used to sleeping with pressure. I don't need it now for that, but on the nights when the leaks bother me, I use it give me a head start on getting to sleep. Tonight I'm going to do the saran wrap on the elbow joints. Maybe if that along with this face adhesive works I won't need to use the ramp up again. I woke up feeling hopeful for the first time this morning, that maybe this thing might become normal to me and stop dominating my life the way it has for the past few months.
