magnetic mattress pads
magnetic mattress pads
I went to a discussion today about the Bene-Fit magnetic mattress pads that are supposed to help with many disorders. I was wondering if anyone has tried these magnetic products for sleep apnea. The sales person said magnets improve circulation thereby giving better sleep quality. I asked her if it helped with sleep apnea and she said it did, but I find this hard to believe. If simply sleeping on this magnetic mattress pad can help apnea instead of cpap, I'd buy one.
Anyone try these?? Does it help??

Magnets are touted to cure all sorts of ills but research has never shown any proof of it. I would be concerned about the magnets messing with the computer in your CPAP as magnets will erase all data.
Here is some more info at quackwatch: http://www.quackwatch.org/04ConsumerEdu ... agnet.html

Not since the days of floppy disks ... a static magnetic field won't do anything to solid-state electronics.crossfit wrote:I would be concerned about the magnets messing with the computer in your CPAP as magnets will erase all data.
You need a varying magnetic field to harm solid-state memory. Moving the magnet around the machine at a rate of a few hundred million times per second might do it eventually (but I think your arm would get tired first). :-)
BTW I also fully believe magnets for theraputic use is complete and utter nonsense ... the only provable effect is the removal of $$ from your wallet.

My two cents - My father was a Nikken magnetic product seller for a couple of years. We all bought his products. None of us achieved any cureall.
We've given them all up.
Your mileage may vary.

"Correlation is not causation". In other words, would the pain have gone away on its own anyway? My aches and pains come and go. (If I have something persistent, the best way to cure it is to make a doc appointment - it'll clear itself up the morning of the appointment, without fail).crossfit wrote:I once was given a magnet bracelet by a friend when my arm hurt. A few days later it was better. That is the type of study they have proving the efficacy of magnets.
I have not heard of anyone doing a proper clinical study on magnets. You know, where you get 100 or so patients with similar complaints, split into test and control/placebo groups, etc.

Kenneth - that was exactly my point - my arm got better. Was it the magnet bracelet? Was it the massage hubby gave me? Was it the naporoxin I took? And actually, I have read of studys done the way you suggest that show no difference in the magnet treatment group and the control non treatment groups.
Babs - I have a set of Nikken magnets too. They are great fridge magnets!
