Weird smell...

Post by tattooyu » Thu Feb 19, 2009 2:48 pm

Okay, I decided to post this outside my main thread, because it was so strange and hilarious.

Last night was night three for me, and I had the best sleep yet. However, I woke up in the middle of the night to a strange and rather foul smell. It smelled like a combination of breaking wind, feet and cheese. Really NOT pleasant. It only lasted a few seconds and went away. It seemed to be coming from my right nasal pillow. Upon examination in the morning, the nasal pillow was clean and odorless.

If I had broken wind, or if my wife did, I would think I wouldn't be able to smell it unless our butts were right against the air intake!

Anybody? Please? So I don't think I'm insane?

Sleep well and live better!

um... are you asking us if the machine can suck in your fart and deliver it in a seemingly concentrated form to your nose?

Yes.

No, I won't tell you how I know this, but I do have two dogs.

It can suck in skunk smell too. That night was horrible. Had to clean all the hoses, mask, and change filters!

My husband stays up all hours, and many times I've awakened in the middle of the night to smell food through my cpap, and that's from downstairs and through a closed door (and unfortunately, that's also included the smell of burnt popcorn. yuck!)

I guess if the PurSleep aromas can penetrate the CPAP machine, other unwanted smells may follow suit!

I had a really horrid dead meat smell last night. Couldnt figure it out so I just dumped a bunch of Pur Sleep on the pad and went back to sleep..

Alright... I'll ask. Why didn't the skunk try a dental appliance first?

<just kidding, of course---surely the skunk's doctor understands that CPAP is the gold standard of treatment>

This made me laugh and smile. On a more serious note, I too have woken up to foul odors coming through my mask. It is sometimes a stale smell or like meat that has not been put away on time. I just washed everything except the machine of course in dish soap and that seemed to help. I may also be due to change the filter. I am not sure. Good luck on solving it.

My husband spends an extended amount of time in the bathroom right before a shower, right before going to bed. Most nights (thankfully), I'm asleep by the time he opens the bathroom door. But there have been a couple of instances when I wasn't and when the smell had not yet cleared from the bathroom. PeeeeUUUU!!!! I reminded him that when I have my pap mask on, I'm forced to breathe through my nose, so I have no relief from the smell! Lately he's been opening the window and that seems to help a lot. But yes, the smells in the room DO come through!

Candles....we have two candles in the bathroom...the agreement is that if you are going to smell it up, you must light the candles....and It makes a huge difference.
