Opus 360 newest redesign - much better !

Post by Dormilon » Tue Feb 24, 2009 1:22 pm

I have been a CPAP user for about a year and a half. I started out with the Comfort Classic mask, then I tried the Swift II, and then the original Opus. The original Opus leaked like crazy, but then they came up with the Opus 360 which was a big improvement. I have been using my Opus 360 for about a year now, and since it was time to get a new mask, I was looking on cpap.com and read on the product description that the Opus 360 was just redesigned again in December. I got one last week and I have to say it is even better than the previous version. The newest Opus 360 has thiner pillows that don't touch your upper lip like the previous one, so it feels more comfortable because you only feel it in your nose. Also, the cushioning material on the mask frame is much better. A lot of people (including myself) complained that the Opus 360 left marks on your face; however the new one is softer and I barely get any marks now in the morning. All in all, it is an even better product now, and just as lightweight as it was before. For those of you who like nasal pillows and are side sleepers, I would highly recommend to try this new redesign. Ah, I forgot to mention that for the past 2 nights I have gotten a leak rate of 0.00 on my Elite S8, which I had never had before.

I also use the SnuggleHose and the ResMed Sullivan chinstrap, which for me, gets the job done most of the time.

The pictures on CPAP.COM look pretty much the same to me. Can you post pictures of yours that show the differences?

Thanks for the update.

OK. It took me a while to figure out how to post pictures on the forum, but here they are:

1. Pillows: the one on the right is the new one, which is visibly thiner and therefore doesn't come in contact with your upper lip.
Image

2. Frame: The one on the front is the new frame, which has a softer padding that helps a lot with the marks on your face.

3. Frame: The one on the front is the new one. It's just slightly different.

Hope that helps.

So, the Opus mask that my DME had me try that was some kind of clinical trial model, was the redesigned 360.....

I have been using an Opus 360 since I started, and I think the pillow is starting to lose its flexibilty. I was about to buy a replacement pillow, but the new style looks like it would be significantly better. Can you tell me if the new style pillow will fit on the old frame? Looks like it from your pics.

Thanks

I just got the Opus 360 not to long ago, and so far to my surprise everyone has chosen the Opus over the Swift. That being said a handful of people is not much to go off of, but for F&P I am impressed. They also have a new nasal mask out called the Zest, its very light weight. The only downfall in my eyes, it doesn't have the quick release snaps that ResMed and Respironics has.

The new pillows would fit in the old frame, but the new frame is much better, so it may be a better deal to get the complete new mask. Also, I'm not sure if you order replacement pillows, if you'll get the new pillows as replacement, or the old ones.

It almost looks like F&P went back to their original design of the pillows.

Image

Keep in mind the picture above has "new" opus label which is now version 2 and therefore not "new" anymore.

The first design tended to fold over and close off air flow ... did not work all that well. Nonetheless, I'm tempted to give Opus one more shot ... you know, the 3 strikes your out policy

Re: Opus 360 newest redesign - Pillow Size?

Post by greyhound » Sat Feb 28, 2009 10:41 pm

How do the pillow sizes (I'm interested in the large) compare to the original Opus 360? Because of my slotted nares, I found the original Opus 360 large pillows just a bit too small and ended up using the Swift LT.

Hi, well, I have been using the Opus 360 from the start of my therapy in August 2008, and only the Opus 360 really worked for me.

The mask I just received from my supplier was the new style. The new design does NOT work for me:

> Without the nasal pillow resting on the lip, there is no "anchor" or stabilization for the mask and pillow. Any side movement or tug from the back on the hose, causes a leak.

> The nasal pillows are firmer, which at first seemed like that would be good, however, it means no good seal, and constant leaks with movement, or even wiggling the nose, or whatever.

> The headgear seems to be redesigned, too, and now no longer really fits my head well.

I wrote to Fisher & Paykel to the email address on line, and had several thorough replies, but since they stopped manufacturing the last style back in December 2008, no one seems to have the older style, more full, nasal pillows. In fact, some DME's were even unaware of it, as their F&P reps never informed them!!

It is a great disappointment for me, as that was the only mask that worked for me. Anyone else?
