pulled the blanket over my head while sleeping...
This morning, I woke up and saw that I had learned a new trick: during the nite, I pulled the blanket over my head. So some of it was resting over the exhalation port of my Flexifit 407. So I'm wondering if anyone has had this experience, and if anyone thinks it might be a problem. I know that if it gets fully blocked, I'd wake up. But I'm wondering if it might impact my cpap treatment.

Several of us have pondered that. In My Humble Opinion, since the incoming air is coming from OUTSIDE the blankets via the CPAP machine, you shouldn't be rebreathing too much CO2.
I am convinced alot of my pre-cpap morning headaches were from pulling the blankets over my head and re-breathing CO2.
Cehers,
B.

I currently have a stash of Nasal Aire II cannulas in Small or Extra Small. Please PM me if you would like them. I'm interested in bartering for something strange and wonderful that I don't currently own. Or a Large size NAII cannula.

Ditto. I do it often. It would only be a problem if you had the blanket pulled so tight over the mask exhaust ports that it was slowing down the vent rate.Babette wrote: .........the incoming air is coming from OUTSIDE the blankets via the CPAP machine, you shouldn't be rebreathing too much CO2.

I do too. In fact some times I get under there just to get warm and end up falling asleep.
Re: pulled the blanket over my head while sleeping...
When I first started cpap, well for at least the first three months, I fought with all of this bad, then one night I pulled the covers over my head and finally slept like a baby for the first time in years, since then I do it every night, with the covers over my head I cannot hear the machine, or the mask, even though these days neither of those even bother me.
anyway it bothered me less to have the mask on my face when the blankets were on my face at the same time, this was when I first started, these days I am very used to it.
When I was very young I used to play and sleep in sleeping bags backwards, I would put my mouth up to the metal zippers to breathe then i'd fall asleep, probably from a lack of o2 (thinking back not smart, but hey what did I know then ) we also rode the sleeping bags backwards down the stairs for fun as well

Just over three years now on cpap, I wish that I could have started sooner.

Hmmm, I used to do this sometimes before sleep study...been worried about doing it since, especially with CPAP. Though now this has got me wondering if it would work. May have to try it some night....

I sleep with a pillow over my head. Keeps out the light as well as noise from my machine.

I pull the sheet over my head when I will be staying in the bed past dawn. This keeps the sunlight on the closed shutters from waking me.sam1234 wrote:I sleep with a pillow over my head. Keeps out the light as well as noise from my machine.

I thought this was going to be a "feel good story" about how one's CPAP can be an excellent defense against the dreaded "dutch oven" phenomenon that one's bed partner might inflict.
I guess not...

Air, like water, follows the path of least resistance. The pressure in your machine is far greater than the outside pressure in your room. Your machine "forces" air in, you exhale out and really can't rebreath that CO2 because of the greater pressure in your mask.

You trap your spouse's head under the covers and cut loose with the gas (borders on being immature, but that's what it is...). With the air being filtered in from an external source, this becomes ineffective...araminta wrote:yo sharkbait,
