Hi all,
I am new to using a CPAP machine. I have a Resmed with full face mask and humidifier. I am a back sleeper with Sever apnea and tend to breathe with my mouth. I am finding that i wake up each morning extremely full of gas, and I figure I must be swallowing the air all night long. Does this happen to anyone else? If so, does it get better voer time as your body adjusts to the CAPA?
CPAP and Gas?
Re: CPAP and Gas?
This is quite common. You will find many discussions in this forum, often using the term aerophagia (air eating). For some people, bloating and cramping are a big problem. For others, like me, the extra air passing through is no big deal. Experiences are so different that I don't want to generalize, but you are not alone.

Re: CPAP and Gas?
Most mornings I get up and burp "Good Morning" to my dog. (It never fails to amuse her... )
Sometimes I awake during the night with stomach pains and sit up until I burp. Hint: Depending on what you ate last, you might want to de-mask for that part...I'm just sayin'.
But the worst is the ingested air that passes on thru. Ask my officemate!

The OSA patient died quietly in his sleep.
Unlike his passengers who died screaming as the car went over the cliff...

What is your pressure? If you would list your equipment and pressure under your profile it would be less you have to type when you ask something or answer when we ask. With many people the air being "swallowed" is caused by the pressure. Sometimes we live with it and sometimes we decrease our pressure if it's only a little and doesn't increase our events greatly.

Re: CPAP and Gas?
Hi kpdet,
I have recently been experiencing that problem. If you will look up the threads that I started in the last week, "CPAP ergo GERD?" and "Does crying ever help?" you will find lots of good info on those. (Not from me, but from the people who helped me.)
The best help for me so far is not sleeping on my side and putting just a little bit of cloth tape over my mouth to stop the mouth breathing. It's not perfect, but it's a big improvement.
