CPAP tubing, other ways to use it

Post by francie1957 » Sat Apr 03, 2010 11:11 am

I have many used CPAP tubes gathered in my closet. Has anyone ever come up with some other use for these? I hate to throw them in the land fill. I am a "pack rat" of the first degree. Can't seem to throw anything away. It seems that there must be some other way to use these thing rather than throwing them away.

My hoses also last a long time and I toss them away when I replace them. I have several new hoses stashed away, though.

There have been discussions about this in the past. One idea I read here that seemed most practical was using old hoses as "cord keepers" - i.e., cut a slit in the hose lengthwise and put your electronics wires inside. Useful for your pc or tv/dvd/vcr/video game set-up. Keeps them all neatly together (and hidden).
Veni, vidi, Velcro. I came, I saw, I stuck around.

Attach a funnel to them and sell them on Ebay as Beer Bongs

To LASat: I have so many because I have used the CPAP for 3 years. I was told to replace it every 6 months, thus I have 5 old ones. I am on Medicare and it DOES pay for one every six months. I love the suggestion from BleepingBeauty about using them as "cord keepers." This might inspire me to think of yet even more things to do with them. The "Beer Bong" suggestion made me burst into laughter. Thanks Joe50 for the chuckle.

I'm on Medicare also, but, I don't believe in getting a new piece of equipment unless I need it. At 15 months my hose was still in good shape, but, I didn't have a back-up just in case. I got a new hose and am keeping the old one for a back-up.

I'm still using my original hose.......since May of 2005 (nearly five years). I have extras/backups (purchased out-of-pocket), but as long as my original is still holding air, it's the one I'll use till it gives me a reason not to.
They tell you that because they can suck more money out of the system that way.

We probably don't need to buy new hoses as often as the manufacturers would like us to.

However, since you already have a stack, you could send all your hoses to Lady Gaga. She could make a hat or a dress out of them for her next hit.

Sweet! Lady Gaga's 'little monsters' would be proud.

I think mine is three years old and looks like it will last another three years. Why create waste by replacing them every six months?

How about cutting a section, poking holes all over, and putting it vertically in an indoor planter to an inch above the soil line to disperse water.

Or running it over a skinny curtain rod to make a wide rod pocket fit without buying a wide rod.

Or letting the grandkids have marble races with the hoses as the "tracks".

Keep one in the car in case you need to siphon gas.

Hang it out an upstairs window and prank someone walking below with a milk splat, while you're hid safely out of sight.

Ok, they're getting worse by the minute. I quit.

I have been using my two since I got my first machine in 1997. I use two because the bed is high, the machine is on the floor, and I like to route the hose up over the headboard. I have several others that came with the two new machines I have gotten since 1997, but I have never used them.
