How many sleep in a recliner, and what brand do you prefer?
I'm considering one because of my bad back, I always wake up several times with back pain. I'm also wondering if my OSA would benefit from it too...

Re: How many sleep in a recliner, and what brand do you prefer?
I spent many nights in Lazy Boy recliners. My husband has an extra large one; mine is regular size probably. I prefer his. They do take time to get used to and I didn't notice an improvement in either treatment or body aches. I did sleep on my side often as well as on my back.
I did have to deal with furballs who thought - wow - Mommy is spending the night here and we must do "lap duty".
One thing is if we were to have a power outage at night now, I could move to the chair and sleep there probably better than in the bed (with no cpap).

I don't sleep in a recliner, but I have worn out plenty of them from over use!
For me, it's the MOST important piece of furniture in the house, and I take it very seriously. Over the years, I have had most of the "Top Brands" as well as some "Brand X" ones as well. Some, I repeat, SOME, of the "Brand X" are every bit as good as the "Top Brand" ones. Some aren't!
What you have to do is go to the storeS (all of them!) and sit your butt down in each and every recliner and see which one "fits" you the best. Make sure the style you sit in at the store is the style you're going to get for the house. Don't try the "stationary" model in the store, and order the "swivel/rocker" for the house, or visa versa.
Here's another tip. DON'T sit in any recliner that is considerably over your budget!!!
I did, and it's now sitting in my living room!!!! (it's a "Brand X" that cost more than twice what I wanted to spend, BUT, it's worth every penny I spent!)

I have had 3 back operations. I will nap on my recliner, but not sleep at night on it. I am considering a Temper-pedic mattress. I have heard good things about it.

So exactly what features on your Brand X make it so wonderful?Komodo wrote:I don't sleep in a recliner, but I have worn out plenty of them from over use!

I'm in the market for a recliner and have been shopping all brands. We already have a Lazy-e-Boy. Love it and I can't get my wife out of it. So the new one will be for me. I definitely don't like the prices and if I can find a cheaper version that "fits" well, I'll buy it.
Does anyone have experience with Palliser?
I'm workin' on it.

Lot's of things.Hose_Head wrote:So exactly what features on your Brand X make it so wonderful?
Width and depth of the seat
Height of the back
Height from the floor to the seat
Swivel AND rocker
Multiple reclining positions (it almost goes completely horizontal when fully extended)
The seat slides forward when reclining, so the arm rests are always in the right position for my arms
The best thing is....it matches the rest of the living room furniture, so my wife doesn't complain about it!

OK. So you're NOT talking about the really expensive goodies such as power recline, power lift, vibrators, heaters, and that sort of thing.Komodo wrote:Lot's of things.Hose_Head wrote:So exactly what features on your Brand X make it so wonderful?

Can't beat a well made and simple unit that's built for comfort and durability.
I'm workin' on it.

Re: How many sleep in a recliner, and what brand do you prefer?
I have a Lazy Boy
The seat and back are extra wide (much more comfortable than being in a more confined space)
The height of the back extends beyond my head (both when sitting and even more importantly when reclining) and I am 5 feet 11 1/2 inches tall.
Mine reclines only & does not swivel nor rock (or anything else for that matter). I would never use those options even if I had them.
But it does almost go completely horizontal when fully reclined (with multiple reclining positions in between)
I start off sleeping in it with it being just barely reclined.
I do recline it more as the night time passes, but very seldom end up with it fully reclined.
The seat also slides forward when reclining, so the arm rests are always in the right position for my arms.
My next recliner will be a hospital type adjustable bed where you can raise or lower the head and raise or lower the feet separately. Being able to have an adjustment (upside down U under the knees) is also a requirement. This takes a lot of pressure off of your back. I now accomplish this in my recliner with a very dense foam leg wedge that I place on the extended leg support of the recliner. When I am fully reclined, my raised knees are almost at a 90 degree angle from my body and are at a 90 degree angle from the bottom half of my legs & feet.

Re: How many sleep in a recliner, and what brand do you prefer?
I have a Lazy-Boy and have spent the night in it a lot lately because of a bad back and sleep apnea. Just attended a sleep session and all I know at this point is I have it but do not know any details, nor have I been to part 2 to sleep with a mask on yet. I have a large recliner and it's broken in to my body shape - I don't like a new recliner when it comes to sleeping. I start out the night like the previous responder - slightly reclined but tend to end in a fully reclined position; however, even so, my head is always elevated. My wife tells me I never snore in my recliner and I assume that is the reason.
I am looking forward to getting back in our bed and that will be whenever I get my sleep anea equipment. This is my first post and I only responded because I know something about recliners.
Looking forward to interacting with you good folks.
