Drowning

Post by sharlan » Fri Feb 18, 2011 7:33 pm

I've been waking up to a gurgling sound and I have to get up, pour water out of the hose and mask, and take my mask apart and dry it out. It doesn't matter if I have the humidifier on 1 or completely off. This just started a couple of weeks ago.

I've been using my cpap for over 4 yrs now, never had this happen before.

Is it colder in your room than usual? Do you have a hose cover?

If a hose cover or other methods don't work to control the "rainout" you're experiencing, sharlan, check out the discussions in this link:

I'm in SoCal, the weather hasn't been that cold at night. We've had much colder weather and it didn't happen. Last week, I was in a hotel room with my sister and she had the heater up so high I couldn't sleep, still did it.

I'm pouring out a good ounce, to maybe an ounce and a half.

It happens even if the humidifier is off.

That is very odd. Especially where you are and with the humidifier off. Has it been more humid lately where you live? The only other place where there is moisture is in our respiration. I just can't see that much water coming from a little exhaled respiration.

Only thing I can offer is to try some sort of home made hose huggie just to see if it changes anything. Some old fleece wrapped around the hose. Nothing fancy and nothing expensive.

There's two places the water can come from. The humidifier and your breath condensing in your mask and running down the hose.
It's one or the other. Might give a try to leaving the humidifier tank dry and see if that's it.

If the humidifier is on a level higher than your head, then water will drip down. Try placing it level or lower.

How much water do you put in your humidifier? Try putting less water in, as little as you can get by with. Put your cpap machine and humidifier lower than your bed. I have mine on the floor. Good Luck!
