AHI 8.4

Post by Hosehead4ever » Tue Apr 12, 2011 7:28 pm

Just wondering what that number means as I've seen people talking about getting it down. Is my pressure too low, maybe?

I'm a newbie, but this question I can answer. It means that, on average, you are having 8.4 apneas/hypopneas per hour. For treatment to be considered truly effective, you want it to be below 5. My 11 day average is 2.5, and I already notice a little difference in how I feel.

SmartLink module works, but software doesn't, so I'm using SleepyHead. Thanks, JediMark!

wiki/index.php/Apnea_Hypopnea_Index

Apnea is the cessation of airflow for 10 seconds or greater.

Hypopnea: A respiratory episode where there is partial obstruction of the airway lasting greater than 10 seconds. Also called partial apnea or hypo-apnea.

AHI (Apnea Hypopnea Index) is the number of apneas and hypopneas per hour. Or an index for sleep apnea. 5-20 mild, 21-50 moderate, above 50 severe.

Might also include CA Clear Airway obstruction or
Central apnea: A respiratory episode where there is no airflow and no effort to breathe lasting greater than 10 seconds.

AHI 8.4? You just started therapy? How many nights? Is this the 7 day average off the machine?
Might be a bit high but when just starting out leaks can mess with things too.
Best thing is to get the software so you can see more than just an average. Pressure might be a bit low or leaks could be messing with things. Do you want the software?

Want the software but isn't in the budget right now.

Understood. Check your PM box.

That 7 and 30 day average shown on the LED screen leaves a lot to be desired.

You need a machine that gives you data. If you fill in your equipment in your profile we can tell you if your machine has this capability

To Rickd1

That's okay, we get sidetracked often here.

This machine you have showing in your profile is the basic el cheapo machine available in this line. Please make sure you chose the correct one for your profile. If no mistake, then you will need to start educating yourself and figure out how to swap it out.

The data we were talking about here is simply not available at all from your machine. Only thing it will ever show is how many hours you used it to satisfy insurance compliance. They gave you the cheapest machine available.

How long have you had it? Do you have insurance? Out right purchase or rent to own? Medicare by any chance? You need to get it swapped for a fully data capable machine. There is software available that gives a huge amount of information that can help if you are having problems. With the machine you have now you can't tell if pressure is working or if leaks are compromising therapy. It is nothing but an expensive brick.

You need at least this machine below.
