I loved my ResMed Mirage Swift II Nasal pillows now HATE it

Post by beth1954 » Mon Apr 25, 2011 1:03 pm

I was using my Resmed Mirage Swift II Nasal pillow mask religiously for about 2 months. This is the first time I have been compliant that long. All of a sudden I just can't keep the darned thing in place!!! It slips from my nose, the head gear just doesn't stay in place at all. I had to end up wearing a ponytail (which I hate sleeping in a ponytail) to try to keep the one strap in place, but I still can't keep it still. I just want to super glue it or something! I was just doing soooo good and now this. I don't get a good night's sleep because I am constantly adjusting. I ordered another type.......can't think of the exact name, but it's an LT or LX "for her" and I am hoping that is better. But I haven't put it together yet.
Now I know my cats want to kill me. They unplugged my CPAP machine.......true story.

Hi
I have a solution for the slipping head gear..here is what most of us do..
put a bit of velcro the bumpy side not the smooth side on the inside of the back strap...I use 2 pieces. The velcro will grip your hair, but not rip or tear it..viola no more slipping. As to swift pillows, they only last a month or two. If you bought a new one you should have gotten 3 different sizes all you have to do is trade the unwa\nted sizes with other members. The thread is called THE GREAT PILLOW EXCHANGE, just do a search for it if its not up and being used. There are lots of trades going on and the swift is a popular mask so lots of availability on what you need.
Cheers
Nan

I used the Mirage Swift II several years ago (actually, it was my first Cpap mask) and really liked it. I moved on and began to try out other masks but recently decided to order a new Swift II. I could not keep a seal with it from the first night. Probably just my imagination, but the pillows seemed "mushier" than I remembered. Every time I changed positions, I lost the seal and the leak woke me up. I threw it in the closet and went back to the Hybrid.

Perhaps they are now manufacturing the Swift II pillows just like the LT and FX pillows--the inferior materials wear out in 1 - 2 months and it becomes nearly impossible to keep a good seal. You need to replace the pillows when that happens. Medicare and many insurers will pay for 2 sets of replacement pillows per month (of course you have a co-pay).

I would try a new set of pillows and see if that helps--I'm guessing it will.

Thanks so much! That might be exactly what the problem is........the nasal pillows may be mushier than they were at first. That makes sense now that I think about it. I'm pretty sure I know where my other nasal pillows are........I'll look for them and then look for the Great Pillow Exchange!
Thank you so much!!

Hi Beth. I have a question:
Are you cleaning your nasal pillows every morning, or evening before bed, and washing your face before bed?
I found that if I didn't do the above; my pillows would slip, and cause leakage.
I was using the Swift LT (http://www.resmed.com/us/products/swift ... c=patients) for 18 months-with no need for replacements, as long as I kept the pillows clean and free from oils from my face.
Recently I upgraded to the new Resmed nasal pillow: Resmed Swift Fx Nasal Pillow (http://www.resmed.com/us/products/swift ... c=patients) and I tell you; I cannot feel the thing, I can sleep on my side, and Im sure my S8 is pumping at lower pressures (Im due for a download to see if that is the case).

all the best

Hey Beth they tried to push that on me. The tech told if it hurt my nose try Vaseline. My Resmed Nose cup works great. Simple easy sleep great. I just wrote a terse letter to the doctor they must have a trip to Hawaii promotion to push that stuff.
