MILLET PILLOW

Post by louspeachy » Tue Jun 14, 2011 7:14 pm

Just curious if anyone has used one of the millet or millet/buckwheat pillows.

I bought a buckwheat pillow years ago.
CRUNCH, CRUNCH, CRUNCH --all of the two hours that elapsed before I tossed it on the floor.
I returned it to the store the very next day.
Some people love these pillows-----
I think I would sleep better with my head on a saddle--like the old-time cowpokes.

I have a buckwheat pillow and love it. It is regular size with a 4 inch gusset around the side that gives it some bulk/height. I can't sleep without it. I worried about the sound, but don't notice it at all, if there is any.

Prior to that I used a king size memory foam pillow that was firm. I hate flat pillows or those that lose their shape within a short amount of time. Prior to the memory foam pillow I would replace my pillow every few months due to it getting flat. I would start with the plumpest pillows I could find (even purchased some of the higher priced name brands thinking they would hold their shape better) and still within a short time, they would be too thin for me.

The buckwheat pillow solved that for me.

I got one - a buckwheat. The one with the 4" sides. I bought this from overstock and I think it is the same as the Regenesis Pillow. Anyway, I don't have the crunching issue others had. 2 hours of crunching? Wow. I don't play that much in bed. I wonder if the quilted shell on mine is part of that - makes it quieter.

I like it. Smaller than the normal queen size. I thought that would be bad but I have not had any problems at all. It is kind of better small so I have room for the mask to stick out on my side. At first, I kept a it half full of but decided to try to fill it completely full Sunday. I think I will take some back out but will wait a week to see.

If you bunch it here and there it retains that shape for me. Up a bit more on my neck. A slight indent for my head. I raise my head, lower it and every thing is the same. It does not shift. I can bunch up the side, adjust the mask and sleep that way without issue. It holds form.

It seems like there is a lot of experience with the buckwheat pillows but nothing with the millet (birdseed) pillows or millet/buckwheat blend. If the buckwheat is too firm for me, I would like to try one of the others but they are so expensive. A bit of "feedback" from other users would be great but it looks like it is as unknown to everyone else as it is to me.

I am assuming the millet would be pretty soft compared to the buckwheat and the blend an "inbetween" firmness. Boy, this pillow stuff can get expensive can't it....

I thought a Niger seed pillow would be good for me. But the Goldfinches woke me early every morning.

I had tried two Buckwheat Pillows before switching to my current Millet Hull pillow a couple months ago.

I had gotten hives on the back of my head from the first Buckwheat Pillow....but I thought if I got a more expensive, better quality one, in a quilted case, etc. That it would be better. And at first it seemed to help (though I would also switch off from it once in a while), but eventually I there were nasty sores on the back of my head...and red and yellow stains everywhere.

I did get blood on my new Millet Hull pillow when I first started using it, but the sores pretty much cleared up....and not having a sore neck when I wake up is still a good thing.

How is Millet different from Buckwheat ? I know it is two different materials, but how do they compare as far as general traits ?

Millet is the little round Parakeet seed. It is softer/smaller than buckwheat.

Sounds like you have an allergy to the buckwheat. Did it itch?

Hmm ... It seems the Millet would be considerably more comfortable than the Buckwheat hands down. What am I missing ? Thanks

I don't feel the buckwheat hulls. I just move them around (in the pillowcase of course) with my hand till my head is comfortable.
The millet is softer. A buckwheat/millet pillow, late Father's Day gift is coming tomorrow. Will try it out if hubby lets go of it long enough.
