I buy a liter of distilled water to keep at my friend's flat in London, I am there every 2 months or so. If I open the container, use a little and put the cap back on, will the remaining water be good to use 2 months down the road on my next visit?
I hate to throw it out if not necessary since it's expensive there (about the equivalent of $6 a gallon).
Does anyone know?
Thanks!

It will last as long as you need it. The shelf life is as long the container lasts.RandyJ wrote:I buy a liter of distilled water to keep at my friend's flat in London, I am there every 2 months or so. Re: distilled water shelf life?
As long as the cap is on it, you're fine. We've got emergency distilled and spring water in bottles and have had them for over a year. If we ever need to tap into a bottle for whatever reason, the water is just as good as it was when we bought it.
Thinking of quitting CPAP?
No problem, here's the first thing to do when you quit:
Advanced funeral planning. When you give up CPAP, you'll probably need it.

Re: distilled water shelf life?
In theory, it should be OK. Even if a few germs got in when you opened it, there's very little nutrients in the water for them to grow on. The germ count shouldn't be that much higher a few months later than when you sealed the bottle.
If you're worried about chemicals leaching from the plastic bottle into the water, that will increase over time. I don't know how long the water sits in the bottle before you buy it in the store, so they might already be there when you bought it. That would also happen to sealed bottles of distilled water sitting in your home.

Re: distilled water shelf life?
Thank you all for the feedback, I had an idea that it would be good but not the certainty.

Re: distilled water shelf life?
Put the jug somewhere where there won't be a problem if it leaks. At our cabin, tap water left for months in jugs out of the sunlight doesn't grow anything, but sometimes the jugs leak.
