My mask farts all nigh long keeping me awake....

Post by fulmer » Mon Jan 16, 2012 6:33 pm

Well actually that was the problem. It would make farting noises all night and constantly wake me up. I discovered that if I take a paper napkin or a paper towel and tear a hole in the middle and place that on the mask before i put it on there is no more farting sounds and all leaks are completely stopped. I have a full beard so leaks where always a problem.

But I'm still struggling with major fatigue, I'm wondering if my farting solution is hindering my pressure and maybe that is why I'm still tired all the time?

I don't really see how it would effect the pressure rate but I'm at a lose for why I'm still so tired.

Welcome Fulmer - people will need some more details in order to offer you good advice. For starters, you could add your equipment to your profile so we know what type of mask and machine you are using.

I also have a beard (not full - just a very shortly trimmed goatee) and wanted to recommend to you this company (run by someone who is also a member here):

http://padacheeks.com

I think you will find you are much happier with these liners then your homemade ones (I started out with homemade liners as well).

As to your still being tired - it does take some time for this therapy to have an effect (I know no one new wants to hear that - I certainly didn't either when I was new) - can you tell us how long you have been at it?

Again, welcome - you've found a place that is full of helpful people here - it has really made a difference for me and I bet it will for you too.

You can also find mask liners at:

http://padacheek.com/
http://quietusliners.com/
http://remzzzs.com/

I have used both the Pad A Cheek and REMzzzs liners and can recommend both.

I updated my profile. I have the ResMed S9 with attached humidifier. Slim line hose, ResMes Mirage Quatro full face mask.

I have been on CPAP therapy for many years. About a year ago my symptoms returned. I did another sleep study and my pressure was adjusted from 10 to 16. That was back in August. It seemed to do the trick but for a couple of months now my sleep apnea symptoms are returning. My sleep doctor gave me a prescription for provigil 200mg. That is suppose to help me stay awake for the entire day, but I find it only really helps in the first hour or two and then I'm completely exhausted again.

It is very frustrating.

I'm going to check out the pads you recomended.

Thank you all,
fulmer

Fulmer, do you actually have an S9 Escape machine? There are several S9 models. Look next to the power button and see if it says escape, elite, autoset, or something else.

If you do have the Escape, that's bad, because the other models record data that can help you figure out what's going on.

That is the problem Fulmer. If you had the S9 Autoset you could download the free software from the ResMed site. Then you could look at details - leak line, pressure line, events, etc.

You might find out that there is something easy to fix. But you need the data.

Not trying to take away from pad-a-cheek, but if you go to the Remzzs site, they will send you a sample of their liners for free to try!

Bummer.. How long have you had it? Since last Aug with the new sleep study? Has the insurance paid for it already in total? If so, no longer need to provide compliance hours and if money permits you could maybe find a full data machine you could use and delegate the Escape to backup status.

One of our forum members had a S9 Elite for sale for $300 which included humidifier. I think that machine has sold but sometimes he runs across other good deals and passes them along. If you stick with ResMed S9 you already have the humidifier. Sometimes craigslist has some good deals..gotta watch close because most machines are way old and priced way too high but there are some good deals. I saw a PR S1 APAP (like in my profile) last night with minimal hours on it for $275 and that included humidifier, travel case and a mask still sealed in package.

With RX one can buy online new and there is a place called secondwindcpap.com that carries some gently used machines as well as open box new machines.

Can title of thread be changed?

Post by NateS » Tue Jan 24, 2012 12:56 pm

Is there a way for the originator of this thread to change the title?

It is an important discussion but has nothing to do with the title of the thread, so many people interested in what is being talked about may never see/read or contribute to this discussion with this header on it.

The discussion is not really about his mask - it's about his machine, his apnea, etc.

How long have you been on cpap? Sometimes, it just takes awhile to heal after being sleep deprived for a period of time. The other possibility is that your levels aren't high enough. I didn't check if you had an autoset but if you do, you might want to try raising your levels to see if that helps.

Oh and there are pads made for just such an issue. Look on any online dme and you should be able to find them easily.

Be grateful they're only mask farts(no odor) and not the ones from Taco Bell food.
