Wind Tunnel Noise

Post by Katagal » Mon May 28, 2012 2:57 pm

Hi Everyone

Once again I seek your counsel........I have two masks so I can alternate pressure points and avoid pressure sores developing especially across the bridge of my nose. Once is a Swift FX mask that covers the nose but not the mouth and the other is the nasal pillows that rest just under the nose and direct air into my nasal cavity and onwards. My question is does anybody else experience the very loud wind tunnel noise when exhaling when using this style of mask - I am actually 70% deaf and this keeps me awake as I sound almost like Darth Vader from Star Wars when I am just breathing quite normally.

"You will learn to embrace the Dark Side..."

I have a similar mask and good hearing and don't experience anything like that.

You may want to lie down during the day and fiddle a bit to see if you can duplicate where the noise is coming from. Wiggle the hose and re-adjust the mask and see what happens.

It could be as simple as e.g. whatever piece of plastic is holding the soft cushion on .. having pleated itself in for 1-2 cm at the edge, allowing air to blow out when the mask is on... meaning you need to carefully get the plastic piece off and try again... but that's just an example.

I found that I got wind tunnel noise much worse with my pillow. I now use a nasal mask, and only have wind noise when my hose touches my memory foam pillow. Hope you figure out something to help with the noise.
