Bedside furniture and CPAP machines

Post by Chikorita » Wed Jul 18, 2012 12:44 am

Just wondering what people use for their machines. I haven't got mine yet it I think I'll need something new to suit the machine.

My bedside table is higher than my bed so that won't work for rain out. Can they go on a shelf that is lower than the bed or must they be on the top for airflow?

Does anyone store their machine in a drawer or is that not advised? Trying to work out if it's possible for my bedside table to not look like a life support machine although I know it is.

Anyone have ideas on how to make things look less 'clinical'? I've seen the skins.

I know I probably don't count as I just got my long-term loaner today, but the nurse told me that anywhere's fine apart from on the floor - she suggested I use the Yellow Pages Phone book to elevate it if I didn't have a close table. She recommended that it not be beside my head due to noise, actually.

Did she say why it couldn't go on the floor?

I started with mine sitting on an open desk drawer next to my bed. I did not like it there as it blocked that drawer and the one above it. I bought a 3 drawer rolling cabinet. I keep the masks and small supplies in the top drawer. I keep the machine in the second drawer. That keeps it lower than the bed. The drawer is fully open at night, so plenty of airflow around it. And I can close it during the day. The whole cabinet is on wheels, so I can move it when I need to.

Who would have thought it would be this challenging to sleep and breathe at the same time?

Wow. That is an excellent photo and great info too. I have some drawers on wheels too. Great idea.

Mine is sitting in the floor; nothing underneath it but the rug. It sits right beside the bed and I never hear mine. Of course I have a cd player that plays sleep music cds all night too. I was doing that before the cpap though.

Yes, she said it was better not to have it on the floor because of dust, that even phone books help. I'm not sure what I'm going to do with mine in the long-term, there's not really many places I can put it here and I can't rearrange my furniture as there's nowhere else it'll fit. >>

It is tricky. The dust was the reason I thought the floor wouldn't be great. I think I will get rid of some stuff in my room and have to empty a couple of drawers. I'm sure it will workout in the long term Ledi.

Target has two-cube units that my machine sits on. Extra supplies go in the not- supplied canvas drawer cubes.

I wanted to free up as much night stand top as possible so I cut a piece of wood about the width of the machine and attached it to the back of my nightstand using two "L" brackets. It kind of makes an extension to my night stand for my CPAP to sit on. I can't get my night stand as close to the wall as I'd like, but it's not that much of a problem. I'd rather have more room on the top, especially since some of the space is also taken up by my SoClean CPAP sanitizer.

I think the documentation for my PRS1 said not to put it on carpet due to overheating risk. In our camper it has to be on the floor so i just put a magazine under it to keep it off the carpet.

At home i have it on my night stand, but it was making noise when running, sort of a vibration between the unit and humidifier so i placed a washcloth on the night stand, then a magazine, this deadened the sound pretty well. it is level with my head, but the hose hangs down so no problems with rainout even though i havent had excess moisture in my hose at all.

Mine sits on the night stand next to my bed and is even with the bed. I use a hose buddy so my hose goes uphill from the machine to the hose buddy so I don't have to worry about water running into my mask.

I put mine on a table that's a little shorter than my bed. It fits nicely there and no one goes into my bedroom anyway besides the hubs! I also bought a snugglehose for mine. Although I love cpap.com they only had 8 options all plain colors. I'm all about goofy and fun so I needed a little pizazz to mine!
On the snugglehose website (snugglehose.com) they have tons of patterns and speciality ones! I finally caved and bought the winter wonderland snugglehose! It's a dark dark blue with deep red and white snowflakes! I love it! It doesn't feel so medical but the downside is that it makes your hose heavy.

I found mine on craigslist. $20 and less than 2 miles away. It took a couple weeks of looking and a lot of different keywords.
