Pressure range for APAP machine

Post by Newsgrouper » Fri Nov 30, 2012 1:59 pm

I'm new to this machine. I show an average pressure of 11.2 . What would be a prudent range of pressures (upper & lower)to set my APAP?

You should download and post the grapfs from your machine. Decitions about pressure should be based on that, not just the average pressure.

Reply,

You're close to my set-up on my APAP. My optimal CPAP pressure has been verified in a recent sleep study to be 13 cm. Notice in the following Stats that my Median pressure is 9.4 cm and the 95% (percentile) pressure is 12.4 cm. The set- up on the machine is 12.6 cm max and 8.0 cm minimum. This set-up took me some time to arrive at by following the pressure graph in Rescan. See the graph below. I fine tuned the setup to have the pressure graph only "kiss" the two limit lines of max and min pressures. The idea was to set the limits so that the machine should not 1) Waste time responding to events, and 2) Run the pressure up, suddenly, and cause new Emergent Central Apneas and also cause the ingested air to rise.

It's the Flow Limitation that jacked up the pressure at 8.00 a.m. (yes, I am retired)

Do you have SleepyHead or ResScan? If so, the 95% pressure is a better number than the average number to start working from.

However, I'll agree that looking at the graphs is even better.
